I don't play against the AI, preferring PBEM. As such I can't offer opinions as to certain aspects of AI performance. Might I suggest a different approach to addressing the issue of the AI. Rather than attempting to be all purpose, focusing on developing strong defensive AI first would seem to be a ...

Ned, May be a case of the blind leading the blind here, but it appears from the message "Modem error" that you are playing online which I have never done. The .yyy file in a PBEM game is simply a text file which lists the situation as it exists when your opponents turn is advanced, much li...

Club users of Outlook Mail I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that BTE files are no longer being marked Read Only. Why the change is of no concern to me. Maybe MS received unfavorable feedback on a number of fronts for different products. I will leave it to the Powers That Be to determine ...

Steve, my post was meant to illustrate that changes to the PDT can effect play without the necessity of actually creating new scenarios. My use of 1500/500 was presented as an example of this fact in the extremes, not as actual parameters. It addresses the question of both small arms and artillery s...

As John has stated above, changes to the game engine are highly unlikely. Through the PDT, however, one can exert great influence on these games. For example, I could make melee the "modus operandi" of attack (if not already the case) by setting stacking at 1500 let's say. Conversely, I ca...

Hoping I didn't miss this point in other postings on this thread, but Civil War armies did not fight hour after hour non-stop, which is pretty much a norm in these games. One could identify a number of reasons why this occurs, but it no doubt depletes ammunition much quicker than might be true histo...

Unless an HPS version has been updated to Tiller 2.0, it will not be compatible with the latter. Doug Shaw was having the same compatibility problem and sent me a BTE file from each version. The header records do not match to begin. The rest of the files bear little resemblance to each other even th...

1 supply point per 10 men. A division of 4,000 men with a 400 capacity supply wagon would exhaust this ammo over 24 turns of firing (offensive and defensive). This equates to 4 hours of fighting. The division would not be totally out of ammo. Some would be at full supply, some LOW AMMO, some NO AMMO...

I agree with the concept of some sort of club site where many of these issues could be aired, discussed, and possibly fixed. But we need to separate the game engine -- totally under Tiller's control -- from those dealing with specific scenarios. The latter are only going to be fixed by members of th...

Just my supposition here. Sticking with the Chickamauga example, WHEN Rich Hamilton develops the patch to bring it up to Tiller 2.0 level, thus making it compatible with JTS Chickamauga (which it currently is not), it will be posted and it can be downloaded. He made no reference in his reply to me t...
