Forum: Mason Dixon Tavern Topic: Why 50% Fire Reduction for ADF?

I'm sure that this topic has been covered before, but I can't find anything in the designer notes as to why a 50% reduction in fire strength is made when using Automatic Defensive Fire in the HPS games! Can someone explain this to me? I note that there is no such reduction when using the Manual Defe...

I am involved in HPSCCH, Scenario # Cam_Murfreesboro C1U2, and the Union forces are missing the brigade commander, Price.

I'm an old throwback to the cardboard counter days, so I have a built-in preference for playing my BG and HPS sims in 2D. I only very seldom use the 3D views, and then usually just to check out details like whether I have intrenchments built or not on a specific hexside. But I'd kind of like to find...

Well, Gary, I suppose that those equatorial flyovers ought to count for something, but I'm not sure for what! You see that's the trouble with the SeaBees. They're always flitting about in a great rush either tearing things down or putting things up, all in the name of the Navy! There's really nothin...

Well I gave it the old Navy try, Tom! And you've got it only half right yourself! I had the pliers in my mouth and the flashlight in my hand. Col. Shannon, it is always a pleasure to meet another basketball player from PacBell! Now for this, and it ain't no s**t! I was doing an early morning repair ...

I served four years in the United States Navy, 1964-1968, as an Interior Communications Electrician. If you don't mind, Tom, I'll take a stab at the difference between a fairy tale and a sea story. A fairy tale is a bunch of BS told by a Navy guy who's never been across the equator. A sea story is t...

I've got to come to the defense of my fellow officer, Jim Wilkes, on this one. There is no way that a routed enemy unit found behind friendly lines should be able to prohibit movement by anyone, including other routed units. They should exert no ZOC. Futhermore, they should simply be displaced if mo...

Rich, I don't know if anyone's already brought this up in this massive thread, but I'd like to state a few things about the current Quality Fire and Quality Melee Modifiers options. I agree in principle with the concept behind these options, and have read the excellent designer's notes...

Hi Brett, I've often pondered the command/battle stress factor that top commanders endured; men like Grant, Sherman, Rosecrans, etc. Some of these men performed so much better in their command roles early on and then seemed to wear themselves out or became victims of overwork and nervous anticipatio...

HPS CAMPAIGN CHICKAMAUGA! I'm looking for a stout-hearted Reb to go the distance in a full campaign. We're talking phased-play (ADF activated) with all the options "ON!" Would like a minimum of at least two turns per week, would prefer once per day. Lt.-Col. Jos. C. Meyer, 4th Brg'd, Cav. Div., 14th...

In regards to #'s 2 and 3 I would like to say that I support # 2 but disagree with # 3 for the following reasons. The spiking of artillery by the owning side was an act of last-ditch desperation to keep the guns which were about to be captured from being turned around and use by the enemy. It was an...

It is only the Back Room from which you may be discluded due to the color of your uniform. By the way, I've prevailed upon the tavern's proprietors to make sure they stock a good suppl...
