It isn't clear how they will handle player fighting. The graphics are superb. You pay anywhere fro $15 to $1321 to join the Kickstarter at different ranks. Higher payments will get you into the Alpha and Beta testing. From the point of view of first person shooter it may work like WW II Online: Euro...

The 1864 Field Artillery Tactics gives the following load outs for a 12 pound gun ammo chest: 20 shot, 8 Case, 4 Canister During the war many of the artillery leaders found that using Shell instead of shot was a good trade off. If you didn't put a fuse on it you could use it as Shot. So the chest wo...

It would lead to very unpredictable situations that would create exploitation opportunities. If you can't predict whether your unit can hold a part of the line the game is changed in a major way. For example, in Turn play a unit is advancing and takes opportunity fire that disrupts it. Now it has pr...

It is interesting how completely different the handling of column formation is between HPS/JT's Civil War games and their Napoleonic games. In the Napoleonic games Column Formation is both a road Column formation and an assault column formation. It can actually fire at reduced rate which I guess mor...

General Whitehead I would not expect agreement from you on any topic in which you had already formed a contrary opinion, but a little respect for the two people who put together the games of Overland, chich seem to be enjoyed by quite a few people, would go a long way toward me giving you any in re...

Assault columns should be allowed in Overland as long as they are being used to assault entrenchments (trenches). The use of column formations in this way is historically accurate -- although the frontage of the assault columns were much wider, the game engine does not accommodate the assault colum...

Gents: Please consider this additional exception to the house rule for no assaults in column: If an infantry unit in column meets a artillery unit in column the infantry player should have the option to execute a hasty assault. Otherwise, the infantry has to stand there until the artillery unlimber...

Hi, General, The original question was how do we feel about meleeing limbered artillery with infantry in column. I'm assuming your answer is no. I guess a related question would be how do you feel about infantry in column meleeing Frank Stringfellow, dismounted and all by himself. The embedded mele...

I have seen the most honest people fall apart after the third straight roll of snake eyes. But mention of having a Game Master, some of the best multiplayer games I have been in used a Game Master as an in-between for determining what orders were received and when they were received. A game ma...

Ken do you mean products/systems like Vassal or Aid de Camp that support PBEM for boards games?

If I remember right they just take care of documenting the move and combat but don't support it by enforcing any rules or recording die rolls as they happen.

In the game the "Column" formation is route column intended for movement on roads. It only has a four man frontage. There weapons would normally be unloaded since it isn't a combat formation. It shouldn't be able to melee under any circumstance but because the game has no column of compani...

Well the last posts make seem to reveal the dire need of some kind of Command & Control system. The Napoleonic series lacks this too and Bill Peters had the idea of such a system: http://wargame.ch/board/nwc/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11937 Bill had also the idea of limiting the reaction, what is ...

Gen Whitehead I suppose the reason you have had no takers so far on a mana a mano Overland is because nobody disagrees with you, especially moi, since I built the sucker. It is always, as Lee said, a matter of time. A person of exceptional tactical ability (not me, to be sure) would make for a high...

Well it is time based if you simply allow the occupation of the VP if certain conditions are fulfilled. Of course not on a daily base but I guess it would be enough if such VPs are awarded if locations are held for a considerable time longer or conquered much earlier, not just 2-3 days. I think if ...

No engine change required. All you need is a unit that occupies a victory location if the requirements for it are fulfilled. So if you want to reward a player for holding Spotsylvania longer or the other player for capturing it earlier you setup a victory location, place a Confederate unit in the h...
