Simultaneous movement system would allow the addressing of a lot of "issues" with the current system but being in the process of trying to figure out how to make it work, it also introduces a lot of problems. The AI for the units would have to be a lot "smarter" then the current AI in order to deal ...

I always liked the board game idea of a Pin result on moving units. Plays hell with the best laid plans of an attacker.[:D] And, probably reflects one of the problems Civil War commanders had when attacking. The tendancy of advancing troops to stop and return fire when fired upon rather than continu...

The best numbers I have been able to come up with is that a regiment deployed in two rank line takes about one foot of frontage per man. This is a composite number from a number of sources but for example a British regiment of 550 men had a 688 foot frontage when deployed in two ranks. While stackin...

While I agree the side the abatis belonged to should know where all of them are, I don't completely agree with the enemy being able to see them before they stumble into them without doing some recon first. We sometimes forget that turn based games are trying to simulate more than just fog of war and...

Unfortunately the game's handling is pretty simplistic. While infantry couldn't melee cavalry, or at least, initiate the melee since cavalry could just ride away, it also couldn't be stopped by mounted cavalry. Horses just aren't much of a blocking force to a 58 caliber bullet.[:D] Probably a better...

Both BG and HPS games give the firer a bonus for firing at a target that is in column. The problem come in when people use the column to move a large number of regiments quickly down a road and assault a position without changing to line. All of a sudden regiments can move 12 hexes and melee a posit...

Actually attack by column of division or company was used and was the preferred method if the column could approach with some cover since it was the ideal formation for rushing a position. The largest one being probably being the Bloody Angle at Spotsylvania where Hancock's corps was formed in colum...

HPS and Battleground games generally favor the attacker in that it only requires a slight advantage in numbers for an attacker to take a position. That said, individual scenarios may dramaticly change the chance of winning due to position, length or VP hexes. Also, artillery is so powerful in Battle...

Ok, I'm confused. You are talking about Battleground Shiloh? The half strength defense fire was an HPS invention I didn't think it existed in any Battleground games. <font color="orange">Correction: I didn't scroll down far enough in the posts. It is an HPS game. This will help the Turn based but I ...

I vote #2, artillery has taken enough beating in rule changes it needs something favorable. Also, think that the disrupt to infantry should not be automatic but based on a morale check. Even better factoring in unit sizes (1000 men routing through 100 more likely to cause disorder than reverse). Per...

Add my two cents worth[:D] To the not really unknown but unpromoted catagory I would put Gen. Cleburne. He should have commanded the Army of Tennessee. To the underutilized catagory I would put Gen. Forest. He should have been given command of at least all cavalry in the West if not an army. To the ...

I took a quick look at these two scenarios you are considering. Afraid only Hooker could lose these battles[:D]. Barring using the old Avalon Hill Hooker rule (half way through the game the Union player has to sit still while the Rebel player hits him upside the head with a 2x4, Union player must th...
