Over the years when I mentioned I was developing my own Civil War game a number of people said they might be interesting in helping me test it. Well its your lucky day!! :D :D :D I need some people to do some testing. The game is Alpha so right now it needs some very basic testing along with the web...

I'll take a look at those. I have the US Army Field Guide to Artillery but it mostly covers how to maneuver the guns similar to the Infantry guide. I found very little on how they actually used the guns in battle. Most of what I am setting up for them is based on just logical assumptions with no fac...

This is more a technical question of how they actually handled field pieces. Could a gun crew change the type of ammo in the gun without having to clear the current load by firing the gun? This is important in that it determines how fast a battery could respond to a sudden change in situation like i...

Here's a short video someone put together from the game. It is very well done and it is difficult not to think you aren't watching reenactors rather than a game.

This screen shot will give you an idea of how difficult it is to even see a soldier much less shoot one. This is a shot from new South Mountain scenarios. I believe it was Garland's defense of Fox Gap. There is a group of confederates charging but are partially hidden by the rocks right above the en...

War of Rights has added three more skirmish area for a new location, South Mountain. One on holding Fox Gap and two on Turners Gap. They are still working on being able to man artillery pieces in the game. It will be interesting to see how they work that into a skirmish fight. Now for some observati...

You can get a copy of the "Official Records" on Amazon for about 10 bucks.

Unless you found something I didn't that is one volume of a 128 volume set. Which is why I am looking for some University or Library that has made an ebook version of it available online.

Then you have Sheridan described as: Fully grown, he reached only 165 cm (5 feet 5 inches) tall, a stature that led to the nickname, "Little Phil." Abraham Lincoln described his appearance in a famous anecdote: "A brown, chunky little chap, with a long body, short legs, not enough nec...

Priest's "Antietam The Soldiers' Battle" so far has the best muster list but it is a little spotty. Schulte has a lot of info but still sorting through it. So far no muster roles but he may have them unpublished. Still hoping to find a searchable version of the "Official Records"...

Anyone know where I can find regimental rosters for the armies before the various battles? I am trying to find the actual muster strengths of the regiments prior to or at least close to the time of the coming battles. I suspect I need to get this from the "Official Records" but I haven't f...

Grand Tactician I am looking forward too. It has some interesting features. Brother Against Brother is probably the best tactical regiment level game made for the Civil War. It just didn't attract enough buyers to support the game. Using First Manassas as their main battle scenario didn't leave it e...

Quite a few since those posts. They have about thirty scenarios now including Historical for Antietam and hypothetical for Harpers Ferry. They also added some special end game features like Last Stand and Final Push that you get when you run out of reinforcements. They added weather which is mostly ...

I think you will find most generals with the exception of Robert E. Lee tended to find other causes for their defeats other than themselves. Both Early, Gordon, Jackson, etc. have done this especially once the war was over and they were trying to protect their reputations. Early can be faulted for w...

The "M" weapon is a smoothbore musket. Most games give it a higher factor for one hex range because of it could fire buck and ball. Essentially making it a shot gun. I don't know why it isn't higher in Peninsula since it was a 5 vs 4 in earlier versions. I haven't checked the most recent J...

Don't go by the graphics alone, also look at the terrain by right clocking on the Terrainh/v.bmp to confirm its path. This is particularly true of some titles. No need for a map editor to do that, but admittedly the acronym that would come to mind is PITA. ;) The question at that point might become...
