Turns are 20 minutes right? So it would take hours to construct trenches and/or abatis. also in clear areas, trees would have to be nearby and trenches could not be constructed on rocky terrain. And the men would be fatigued so that would have to be added in. It could be done in the game but under t... |

We could argue about this forever so lets get back to the original question. Blake, it is obvious whose side each one of us would belong since we chose to play on one side instead of another. It might not be true for all but probably a good majority. |

The Negros, if freed, would have done the same jobs as they had previously because no white man would do them. Racism would have prevented the Negro from taking the jobs a white man did so your argument, while a good political explanation, doesn't trickle down to the man holding the rifle. |

Shelby Foote ,in an interview, quoted a southern prisoner as saying he was fighting because the Yanks were invading his homeland. This sounds like regionalism as opposed to nationalism, which didn;t exist then. |

I have always felt the War of the Rebellion was necessary in order to unify the country and establish a National Identity. Although slavery would have died out eventually, Racism with all its ugly manifestations would have continued but on a much higher level than we experienced during the 20th Cent... |

Has anyone adjusted the slider and not told his opponent? We never check these things. I could swear that all my opponents who beat me (and there have been many) have used this ploy.. |

If the South had won we wouldn't have the great country we have now, united and free. the south would never have given up the slave trde except over time perhaps. |

I can't answer that question. That was a different world and a National Feeling had not yet developed. there is no way a 20th Century man can relate to the feelings of an civil war era man. Most people were racist then, religion played a large part in their lives, just trying to put food on the tabl... |

You can't ignore the European card in all this. Some major nations would recognize an independent south or prior to that offer both supplies and military aid (especially France who was already in Mexico) this arrangement would surely bolster the weakened South. A what-if: would France have eventuall... |

yes, Scott was actually against any organization above the Brigade level. What was good for the Mexican war was goood for 1861. Unfortunately he did not recognize that the size of the forces would be many times that needed in Mexico. That's one of the reasons Mcclellan had his supporters force Scott... |

Gen. Stiles: You should know that the Zoauves were specially trained troops, elite as it were, and were entitled to their unusual dress, which, bythe way, was easy on the march, not chaffing the skin AND the blowsiness gave a false impression of a target for the rebs. The photo I provided was an accur... |

I thought Scott's anaconda strategy was being followed with the successful sea blockade and the capture of the Mississippi river. I believe there was an Operational failure with the Eastern ground forces. McClellan was probably the best general the South could have wished for. He hated Scott and for... |
