The Rebel side has a boat load of problems in this scenario. The obvious one is the Union right while fixed initially so you can get in the first blow, is easily reinforced. Sometimes, at least when they first play it, the Union player fails to realize he needs to send major reinforcements to the ri...

Well Mark went down to inglorious defeat by noon of the first day with the Union already at Major Victory level. Mostly confirming my initial opinion that the historic scenario overwhelmingly favors the Union. Anyone else feeling lucky and thinks they have a strategy that will give the Rebel a chanc...

Check your "Settings" menu. If "On Map Results" isn't checked then it gives the pop up detail dialog.

Solid shot was not quite as effective during the CW as compared to Napoleonic battles which used the tactic of firing solid shot in front of the infantry so it would spray up rocks, etc. and also bounce through the formation. The first effect, secondary shrapnel, was undone by the terrain. European ...

Campaigns don't really have scenarios just starting points which they call "Situations". The sequence should look like this if you are starting a "New" campaign: Start Campaign Gettysburg. Should open a dialog box with two choices: Start New Campaign Continue Old Campaign Click o...

I am trying to determine if the battle is winnable for the Rebel player. So I wanted to try this scenario as the Union side to see if I could find any weakness to exploit. But I need an opponent to play the CSA side that has time to quickly run through this battle. It is a three day battle but I sus...

The reason for the lack of a password for campaigns is passwords would not allow causalities, etc to carry over to the next scenario. And the carry over is one of the important aspects of the campaigns. It would still be helpful to have a password for the player to start his turn of the game withou...

I haven't seen anything quoting Grant at the time of the battles as making such public statements but he probably did in his reports and later memoirs. But in the cases mentioned he was probably right and it is a good generals responsibility to identify why a failure occurred and hopefully taking st...

If you are referring to the game scenarios that are only run while doing a Campaign game, they don't show up on the Battle scenario selection because they are in a different folder on the computer. It's a sub folder called "Campaign" but the scenarios are not identified other than by numbe...

One can do multi day scenarios. Multi month scenarios are a stretch for the game engine. The game just doesn't have limits on what you can do that a real army does. An army can fight for a few days non stop but at some point it had to stop and make an extended rest or all its horses and mules would ...

I think the "monster" overland scenario is mostly an experiment not meant to be taken to seriously. The JT games are designed to handle 1-3 day battles. They don't include the things needed to reflect a campaign length scenario. They have no logistical elements that would make retreating t...

Grant didn't take Richmond in the 64 Overland Campaign for a lot of reasons. Some his own fault or that of his subordinate generals. Grant didn't know how to use cavalry which odd because his Vicksburg Campaign was a success because of how he handled his cavalry. Meade was to defensive minded to bea...

If I am the Union side the "path" it follows depends on how fast the Rebs can run south. It has been a while since I played it but my general impression was that the Union side had to high a morale. While they probably did start out that way they quickly deteriorated as the three yea...

The PDT is used to "fix" a lot of things within a scenario or campaign so probably isn't that good of an idea to view the PDT as one size fits all. Weapons and tactics shifted throughout the war as the troops and officers became better trained on how to use them and what their limitation a...

AI is a major concern. Not because players are using it as an opponent... Fwiw, that actually is the reason it is a major concern. If its a major concern then the game is screwed. I doubt anyone will be able to program an AI for a game that has hundreds of units operating across thousands of...
