Gents,

Having played the Battleground series to death over the past 3 years I have just unwrapped my first shiny new HPS game and am looking to get to grips with it. I have never played HPS before and am looking to start a manouvre with a friendly officer who can show me the ropes. I don't want those darn'd Yankees clobbering me too badly before I know what I'm doing.

Someone who can show me the differences between fighting with the BG and HPS systems would be great.

Anyone out there who can assist?

you can contact me at james_brdh@yahoo.co.uk

Sorry James I do not have the time, but contact Gen John Dragan, he usually has a slot open and he is a damn fine player who is very experienced with the HPS system - I am not sure but I think he is still a VMI institutor - anyway he will put you right

Thank you Cam.

Many thanks to Nick Kunz for jumping in and putting me through my paces.

I already have some yankees buzzing around asking me for a game, I think they sense some easy meat!

Cheers Gents, drinks all round.

General McOmish,

From all that I have been able to observe... he is picking things up very well! <salute>

I love it. Taken me out of my battleground comfort zone though. May need to call in here to drown my sorrows if I take too bad a pummelling from some of these yankees. General Olinsky's already got me tied up in knots at Bull Run, I 'm not even sure which direction I'm supposed to be facin'.

At least you boys are having fun. I do prefer the HPS system over the BG - more elegant.

I do hear tell that Gen Olinsky is a pretty good general, but do not tell him that as his head is already way to big for his hat - if we make it any bigger he won't be able to get though the forum door

General McOmish,

Whew! I did scrape the sides of my head when I came in. I thought it was my TEXAS sized hat... but perhaps I was wrong about that! :?

God Save the Queen! (I always wanted to say that!) :D

I'm looking forward to that next battle file from you, James! Elements of the 101st Airborne Infantry are getting ready to fly in! That will really make your head spin!

General McOmish,
Cam,

It appears that the battle is all but over, Sir! A Union Major Victory, of course!

But honestly it was a matter of Yankee treachery for the most part. I had a significant amount of troops show up behind Brig. General Broadhead and he was unaware of their presence and in this particular scenario... 003 1BR.BullRunV.1 allows for the gaining of Victory Points when you exit troops off the map at an enemy objective hex. I ran a bunch of units off the board to achieve a Major Victory. When I realized that James was not aware of this possibility... I offered to restart the scenario but he refused and decided to press on in hopes that my depleted Army strength would be an advantage to him.

In essence, he was quite right about that and skillfully shifted a significant portion of his Army to attack me on my right flank and was pressing his own boys towards my objective hexes. I think there may have been a good chance of success by employing this well thought out strategy... except for the fact that this is only a 42 turn scenario and he ran out of time to complete the maneuver.

We are currently on turn 37 of 42... I have offered James a termination bid as it does appear he'll fall short of his goal before the final turn.

I can only commend Brig. General Broadhead. A most excellent player who will bring many victories to the Army of the Alabama in the days ahead!

Greg,

Thank you for a very enjoyable and "educational" game. I am getting some practice in and will be looking for a suitable re-match in the near future.
