We just got connected to the telegraph tonight. It's been a trial because after spending almost three months so far back in the woods in total seclusion, Martha thought that she could still run around without the need for clothes at the new place (still pretty far out but you can at least detect some smoke signals now and then). As a result, not only have all of the deer and bear and rabbits been scared away from the new residence but it took five attempts to get telegraph service, primarily due to a commitment by Martha to start wearing clothes again, and our agreement to pay for the psychological treatments of two telegraph workers who didn't heed the warning song ("Don't Look Ethel").

Anyway, I'm back and full of stories. Martha and I can't figure out what all of the fuss is about with these new fangled amenities. What good is that thing that replaces the Outhouse when it just backs up because the corn cobs won't go down it?
