My opponent and I are becoming very muddled over the exchange of game turns in an HPS campaign Peninsula game. I cannot explain clearly to my opponent what I think the problem is exactly.

There are 3 game files for the campaign game I believe? .btc .bto and .cpf files

I believe it is the .cpf file that we need to save and exchange each turn?

My opponent has been sending me a mix of the 3 different file types and our game has become horribly muddled, can someone please explain to me the difference in the file types and why the campaign game is so open to confusion? For example, there is no PBEM encryption in place so I've accidently opened the game on my opponents turn and seen his deployments.

I do not know all the differences, but I do know that you need to only send the "cpf" file.

It's understandable. VMI has to spend so much time introducing shoes, reading, and writing to their recruits there really isn't time for things like proper exchange of files. [:D]

You're a hard man Mark; I'm just not feelin' da love at all. [:D]

*EDIT* I think we've all inadvertently opened the wrong file on these games. When I've made that mistake I usually will play another file or two from a different game and then come back to the one I 'oopsied' on and by then I've forgotten anything of use.

This was a problem when the HPS games first came out but the campaign game has been patched so you get the little box that asks "Do you want to watch the rebel/union replay ?" If you click Cancel it doesn't open the file. So unless you're in such a big hurry that you don't read the window you can avoid seeing your opponents setup.

And if you're in that big a hurry you better be careful on the net, lots of windows out there where clicking OK means you agreed to accept emails, give access to your computer to someone, or even buy something.

Here is a Tip I found to work for me (after a few mistakes like this), associate the .cpf files to open with Notepad then your .cpf files have different icons (Notepad icons) beside them than the other files in the game folder.
