Gentlemen, <salute>

As the result from a lucky shot by an unknown Yankee bushwhacker I shall be be having my right leg amputated early tomorrow (Friday) morning. I should only be out of action for a few days. Keep me in your prayers. Drinks are "on me" at Miss Clarissa's.

Appeals to our sympathies will get you no where, Colonel Kocher! You are too much of a unreconstructed Rebel who takes too much pleasure in the battlefield demise of Yankee opponents. And doubtless you will feel even more onry once you've been re-strapped to your horse and are again ready take the field! You are a distinct credit to the memory of John Bell Hood, who would probably have insisted, if the South had won the war, that the Confederate Medal of Honor should have been restricted only to those veterans who had lost two or more limbs!

But, nonetheless, good luck to you, Larry! I know that this is something for which you have prepared yourself and which few of us could face with such frankness.

I've just managed to run down Colonel Kocher, who is in rehabilitation following his leg amputation surgery. He's doing OK and says he will be back home this coming Monday, although it may be yet a short while before he's ready to remount "Old Blue" and get back into the thick of things. I suspect that when he does he will be even more unpredictable and wild than before, <i>especially when he sees his bar bill!</i>

My family will pray for your quick recovery Larry. I've no doubt you'll prove to be a better battlefield commander then either Ewell or Hood after there loss of a limb.

You are right General Meyer, I have checked in at Miss Clarissa’s Tavern and his bar bill has been given a good working over. Plenty of us drinking to his good health. But he need not worry General Smith has left me in charge of the Army so I have transfered the bill to his tab. As long as no one talks it will stay under the Generals radar
