If you ever find yourself in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area with some time I would heartily recommend making a visit to the Texas Civil War Museum. Wife and I spent a couple of hours there last weekend while killing time until our concert started. Lot of great uniform on display along with many other exhibits, such as weapons and items used in everyday camp life. Pretty awesome getting to see J.E.B. Stuart's saber, one of Grant's actual coats, etc. Could have spent a few more hours there if we had the time. The wives, if they aren't interested in the Civil War history, will like the section devoted to Victorian era dresses.

The picture of Grant's coat is amazing. I had not seen the actual coat up until now, but the museum's online picture of it really brings home the austere, functional style that Grant adopted.

It was kind of weird seeing a uniform coat or a saddle on display belonging to Brigadier or Colonel So and So and realizing that I had been moving his digital persona around the battlefield.
