The following, official dispatch was transmitted this date from Washington, D.C. to the Field Headquarters of the Army of the Shenandoah.

Maj. Gen. Ron Virts, ACWGC
Commander, 1st Brigade, Third Division, VI Corps, AotS

General,

As per your request and in accordance with General Order No. 5, Union Army Standing Orders, you are hereby relieved from duty in the Union Army of the Shenandoah and retired with full rank and honors from the American Civil War Game Club this date, December 1st, 2018.

General Derald Riggs, ACWGC
Commander, Union Military Group

When an officer of such long-standing tenure and combat proficiency elects to retire from active duty in the ACWGC, it demands a pause of respect.

Major General Ron Virts joined the ACWGC in June of 2006. He was originally assigned to duty with the now deactivated Army of the James and, after winning the Sheridan Combat Medal and the Kearny Cross of Valor, was transferred into the Army of the Shenandoah at the beginning of 2008. He was appointed as the Division Commander of the Third ("Cast Iron") Division, VI Corps, a position he held with distinction until the start of 2012. Along the way Ron rose in rank to first a brigadier and then a major generalcy, not only administering his division but actively compiling a battle record that would eventually read: 41-39-61-8-7.

Ron also contributed to the welfare of the Union Military Group by occasionally offering his services as an Instructor at the Union Military Academy. He was awarded the UA Combat Badge and raked in 13 Battlefield Ribbons, 2 FMV's and participated in 8 Red Badge of Courage Tournament games. He also holds 4 UA Good Conduct Medals and finishes his career with over 1,600 OBD Points.

Irrespective of the statistics and voluntary administrative duty, it was Major General Virts's seemingly unlimited enthusiasm and proficiency in game play that drew the admiration of both his opponents and superior officers.

The Union Military Group extends it's gratitude for Ron's camaraderie and best wishes to him in all future endeavors he may elect to undertake
