Can any club members who have any of the Great Battles of the American Civil War Series board games (– by SPI/SDI/GMT – Terrible Swift Sword, Gleam of Bayonets, Dead of Winter etc) please contact me as I need some information of some of the games in the series. Any help appreciated. :D

Hi, General,

Haven't messed with these games since the mid-eighties but had TSS, Bloody April, Pea Ridge and Kernstown.

I think the system has become more complicated since then, but here is a resource:

https://www.spigames.net/GBACW_PDF/GBACWMod0Intro.pdf

It is amazing to me that these games retain popularity well into the computer age.

Actually, this is probably better:

Hi General, thanks for the link - I have been talking with Russ Gifford for some time (very helpful guy), but I am wanting information on the victory conditions for each battle - which is usually found in the rules or on the map. I am working on a proposal to integrate these games into the club, as they are very similar to the JTS ones we play. However to get them to fit into the DoR I need to understand the victory conditions for each. I have about 8 of the series, but there are a lot more. I was surprised how many people still play them and the fact that they are still sold/produced. :D

General McOmish - I'm glad to hear those games are still being produced! I was able to acquire only one - Cedar Mountain - and that only because the guy I played against had an extra copy - he wasn't about to part with any of his games! :) He had Pea Ridge, which was the one we often played, and Gettysburg. I don't remember if he had any others or not, but I think he got his as supplements to a CW gaming magazine.

I'll have to dig through my game stash and see if I can find my old copy of Cedar Mountain!

Your humble servant,
Gen 'Dee Dubya' Mallory

Why thank you Suh, if you can find it, it would be most helpful. I have the original SPI copy of the Terrible Swift Sword - the map graphics are gorgeous, been thinking about framing the map and putting up of the lounge wall - not sure if my best girl will be very supportive of this idea

I have a few, too, including TSS, Wilson's creek and couple of others. I have a set of scanned copies somewhere (and the games squirrelled away - also somewhere). Will have a ferret and see what I can find.
