Maybe known by some because of the splendid online presence, but still missing a thread on this board, so I though I make one.
A Grand Strategy game about the Civil War that provides a lot detail, more than one would expect on this scale.

Webpage:
http://www.grandtactician.com/thecivilwar/index.html

Meanwhile a release in the Summer of 2020 is the goal.

Despite the close release there are still very few videos, nonetheless these show a good portion of the game and give a good and promising impression:

Yep, and almost too good to be true. I wonder if I miss something that spoils my hope that this game could replace more or less all the strategic games we currently support.

Anyhow if it meets expectations & is a success I would live to see this for the Napoleonic era.

You would think that they would be able to use the "engine" for the Napoleon era, but the economic and geographic scale would be much more conplex

I have been of the opinion that Strategic Civil War titles get so lost in the weeds of economics and politics that they forget about the battlefield. This appears at this point anyway to be a huge leap forward towards combining a really advanced battlefield system with the strategy overlay. I hope as the design continues (and this is really a massive undertaking) they do not find the need to make too many compromises to turn out a finished playable product. It always seems the poor understaffed and overwhelmed designers have to settle in the end. Very hard not to over promise and under-deliver when you look at the expectations of the average Civil War gamer and our never ending search for that game that offers us a true tactical experience driven by a well designed Strategic Decision Process.

Any of you gentlemen anxiously awaiting the release of Grand Tactician? They said sometime this summer but no defiant date.
As just a novice war gamer, it seems like you either trade graphics for realism or visa versa. This seems like it might be a happy medium between the two.

Releases today in Early Access. Looks way too buggy to consider purchasing right now, even if reports regarding my "deep pockets" were true. And, the EA price of $39.95 is only 10% off the planned cost of the "finished" product.

Too far to go with too little reward, imo, at this point

What really is a concern to me is that I heard there will be no multiplayer, so Human vs AI only.
If that is true it's a no-go for me.

I made the plunge. Will see how it goes. NP doing a single player right now. Always willing to try, what appears to be, a good quality game.

Will let you know how it goes. :)

You have to pay extra right now for the additional soundtracks. I'm only going with the basic download at this point.

Would agree with Christian....multiplayer is VERY important!!!

Please do, Derek; although I tend to enjoy tactical/operational games far more than the strategic, this one has captured my interest.

Amen to that! I rarely played multiplayer before joining the club. Since, I don't see myself playing the AI much anymore. Just wish my work schedule allowed playing a little more often... that said, i better get off here before the boss walks up.

I've Downloaded and made a video. I've gone down the rabbit whole of streaming and youtube. Grand tactician was and is high on my list to create content on (to the chagrin of my PBEM opponents, sorry guys i'm on my next turn I promise.)

watch it here. https://youtu.be/Xpqc1UofjvY

This is an Early Access game and I would not recommend buying at the 40$ tag simply for the reason that it is an unfinished product. BUT, boy does this seem to have a lot of potential. the west point academy style maps are hand drawn, and give a very distinct feel to the game. The zoom in is good and well done, but one almost prefers the 2d maps to zoom in a little bit further before switching to 3d.

the AI is dumb right now. especially a campaign level, but the developers are very up front and responsive to their community so there is a very big hope these guys at Grand Tactician are dedicated to fixing the bugs. They a\have admitted that the game is no "complete" but wanted to get it out onto Early Access.

Regards,
