26. When we warn that you need to avoid being flanked, most of us think about the right and left flanks of our army. The same principle applies anywhere on the battlefield, including in the middle of your line. If you leave gaps, then you leave opportunity for your opponent. This doesn't mean that you can't have gaps in your line, just don't have them where your opponent can take advantage of them and watch your flanks to make sure that he doesn't.

Also, never play Turn Based without the separate Melee option on or you will find out about Blitzkrieg. :)
Likewise, never leave units completing a line that are to weak to stand up to fire. It is still possible to shoot a hole into someones line and Blitzkrieg.
