Beautiful shot, taken it appears on a perfect fall day. It was on such a day I first visited Antietam and I have never forgotten it. Thanks for sharing.

It was a beautiful day. It had poured the day before. It was an amazing experience. There wasnt a soul there for most of the 8-9 hours I was on the battlefield.

Gentlemen, Sirs! <salute>

Good heavens, in the mid 1970's I lived outside of Smithsburg, Maryland about a half hour drive to Antietam. Didn't get to the battlefield until 1992 at the end of an east coast trip. We were down by the left of the bend in the road and watch a 18 man squad conduct a two line live fire, frontline fires and steps to the rear. Rear line steps forwards and fires. I think each line of 9 men fired 3 times. This was the first time I had witness something like this and the smoke generated by the firing of only 18 muskets was unbelievable. That's when I began to understand the fog of War!

Great pic on a beautiful day!

Respectfully submitted,

Your Obedient Servant,

General Nick Kunz
Commandant,
Vicksburg Military Institute
