Some of you old timers may remember these collectible cards. They sure look cool I will say that! Better than Pokemon trading cards.

Image
They are bloody and hardly even historically accurate. All they need is some nudity and we have ourselves the making of a great movie.

Don't remember the trading cards, but I do remember when Old Glory at the Crossroads appeared in the Sunday comics. Started a love affair that has lasted nearly sixty years!

Gentlemen, Sirs! <salute>

I just don't ever remember seeing "Old Glory at the Crossroads"! I did have my Blue & Gray plastic figures to fight the ACW though!

Respectfully,

Your Obedient Servant,

Hi, Nick,

This website should bring back memories.

https://marxwildwest.com/civil%20war/civilwar.html

I remember drooling over the Marx playset page in Sears catalogue as a kid. Even though we didn't have much, my folks got the Civil War playset for me for me for Christmas.
Don't remember which year, but I recall it contained 68 Rebs and 54 Yanks. Lots of fun.

Mike,

BINGO! That Sears Christmas catalogue was Christmas itself! Yup, I got one too, came in a very large box!

Wow are you guys taking me back.
Those old plastic playsets were popular when I was a kid.
I had the Fort Apache set and my brother got the Wells Fargo western town set.
We lived in what today would be called condos but in those days were called row houses,
a large housing plan with six or seven 2 and 3 bedroom units per building.
One neighbor had the Battleground set and another the civil war set and we would go to each other's house to play.
Funny thing was out of all of us I was the only one who ended up a wargamer,
and that all started when a friend brought Parker Bros Civil War game to a history club meeting in high school.

I had most of this playset, too. Burnside bridge, the cannon, mortar, redoubt... and the soldiers, of course. I'd build a two-story house out of Lincoln logs and set the bluebellys to defending.

As we (the Confederacy, of course 8) ) began to attack, I would roll out the South's secret weapon. I had a remote controlled (by wire) Sherman tank that fired plastic shells. After preparatory fire, the rebs would charge behind the tank as it overran the house.

JT should add that tank to the OOB

You'd figure Sherman tanks would be fighting for the Yanks. Might explain Georgia.

Ken,

I was going to add about Fort Apache! My older cousin gave his set to me with the 4 sided snap together fort!

I spent most of my allowance money on those HO plastic WWII vehicles and tanks plus they had those miniature soft plastic infantryman, I really like the yellowest ones that represented the Desert Fox troops. Back then you could buy a US Jeep for a quarter. They came from Germany. Probably worth a small fortune today if they were still around!

Geez, we grew up in a wonderful era! Played outside until dark. Never locked our doors or worried about crime! Now being retired with these computer games we can play all hours of the day!

Respectfully,

Your Obedient Servant,

Looks more like the after after-party face.
