Not sure if any of you gentlemen are a fan of OTR as I am (old time radio, The Shadow, The Lone Ranger, Fibber McGee and Molly, ect) but these are some episodes of OTR from the 1940's and 50's that have a subject matter involving the Civil War. I'll list the episodes and then the link to the page they are on. These are all free of charge to listen to and if they are not, let me know and I'll point you to a free site they should be on.
You Are There - The Bombardment of Fort Sumter 5/22/49
You Are There - The Battle Of First Bull Run 10/3/48
American Portraits - There Stands Jackson 7/3/51
You Are There - Monitor vs The Merimac 4/4/48
NBC University Theater - The Red Badge of Courage 5/8/49
Escape - Occurance At Owl Creek Bridge 12/10/47
You Are The - Battle Of Gettysburg 2/22/48
You Are There - Appomattox 11/7/48
Crime Classics - The Lincoln Assassination 12/9/53
The Lone Ranger - Conference With General Lee 2/9/53

This is a link to a page these episodes are in along with a brief description of the episode.

I said it once and I will say it again... we are wayyyy too alike for our own good. I do love OTR but I prefer the comedies of Abbott and Costello, Martin and Lewis, Burns and Allen, and the always great Jack Benny. Throw in a little mystery from the Shadow or Suspense and you have yourself some entertainment!

I do actually listen to music but how often can you hear the Best of the Eagles, Journey, or Fleetwood Mac before you need to change it up some? I miss the days of good music.

Somewhere in the Club a Taylor Swift fan is outraged with me

Comedy for me is The Great Gildersleeve, Our Miss Brooks (because Eve Arden was a comedy genius) and My Favorite Husband ( the radio preview of I Love Lucy). The Shadow, Tales Of The Texas Rangers, Suspense, and The Whistler are also a few personal favorites. Jack Benny of course is a "must" but I like to include some Fred Allen in there too.

You think of it as "old". I think of it as..."refined" and "distinguished" .

Many thanks for this information, Jason! I fondly recall the YOU ARE THERE episodes that I watched as a kid. They were mostly broadcast on Sunday afternoons. I look forward to seeing and hearing them again!

My pleasure, sir. I'm glad this was good for some nostalgia. The "You Are There" broadcasts are pretty awesome in my opinion.

Tex you are still a junior officer so for all intents and purposes you are young - early twenties, so enjoy your youth and tell your best girl she now has a much younger man.
