Gentlemen, I am happy to be back in the arena after an extended leave period. I have recently converted all of my HPS games to the JTS version and have just begun a couple of pbem games. One of the big things I've noticed in our phased turn game with auto defensive fire is that artillery does not appear to fire automatically in the defensive fire phase. Can anyone help explain why this is so? No matter how close a valid target is, artillery does not fire in the defensive fire phase. This seems totally unrealistic and ahistorical, Can someone, please help me to understand the reasoning behind this decision? Thanks!! |

That sounds very odd. At the top of the battle screen: Select A/I; Select Adjust Auto Defensive Fire; and See what has been checked for Artillery. That's the only simple thing I can think of, hope it helps. |

Ohhhhhh, I told you I'd been out for a while. I didn't even know this was necessary. I thank you so much for your quick reply, I shall check this immediately. Again, much appreciated. |

The default I believe in every scenario is minimum range. It would be better if you had a choice before you began the scenario, but we're not there yet. |

Yup, I saw that this was the case. I also noticed that each side has to go in on their first turn and make the change. I agree tit's too bad you are not given the chance to set this before play begins. First, it hampers the second player as they lose their artillery for their first df phase. Second, if either player completely forgets about this, or doesn't know about, as in my case, you can go an entire game with no artillery fire during the df phase. But again, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the quick responses and information given. Thank you! |

Also you have to select Automated Defensive Fire Option for this to work, from the CWB Manual. "Note: Although it can always be accessed and works in both Turn and Phase Mode, the Auto DF Dialog settings only work if the Automated Defensive Fire optional rule is in use." Although Automated Defensive Fire is not actually needed for Turn Mode you have to turn it on for the Auto DF Dialog settings to work. |
