I think that I remember WDS recommending that the games not be updated in the middle of a game. That is fast becoming untenable with multiple opponents, games lasting 100 turns, and/or opponents having to decrease their playing time. Is it safe to update our games at any time?

WDS says that it is and I haven't heard any problems with doing so. Both people must update at the same time though.

That is good news, but what do you do when one opponent wants to upgrade but another opponent does not? Do we create a second game folder by downloading the game from WDS again and thus have a game folder for each of the two updates?

Given how large most HDD's are today, what I do is right-click on my WDS Gettysburg folder (or whatever game), copy it, and then paste it in new folder. Then I make it "WDS Gettysburg v.4.03" or the corresponding version. I then go back to the original folder and update that version to the newest release. I don't keep all my old versions (wish I had) but I do this for quite a few. You can open up the folder you need to play the game you are engaged in. My WDS Gettysburg folder is 2.23 GB and so that is not much space (assuming most people have 1 TB HDD's).

This should work for you. Maybe someone has a different way to accomplish the same end, but that is my method.
