Started wargaming aboard the USS JFK in 1972 on what turned into a 10 month cruise. I was an ET working on radar systems. Upon the end of my enlistment in 1973 I subscribed to S&T and enrolled at Oregon State U working on a Physics degree. Upon completion (The Trailblazers won the NBA championship during our commencement ceremony). The University President had to pause his speech due to the audience (radios were everywhere) cheering the victory. I then started a position as a technician for the OSU Physics dept. While working for the University I bought and Apple II computer and to justify it I started taking Numerical Analysis courses. After 4yrs of one course at a time I completed a BS in Math. During this time I had a friend who was involved in writing some graphics routines for SSI and was given copies of thier games, he passed some of them on to me. Since then I have worked for large and small companies. Doing technician or engineering jobs. I spent a few years casting Al cases for bar code scanners (Videx), was 1 of 4 developing a 3d printer with Al our printing medium. This was the brainchild of a guy named Gore(tex), it went nowhere. Then at HP as a electro/mechanical tech working on robotic sand blasters. Finally ended up with Seabird Scientific building optical oceanographic research instrumentation. Am now semi retired and have recently discovered JTS software. I have been distant gaming with my son for many years now (He is in PA I am still in Oregon) he beats me mercilessly.

Joined the USAF in 1980. Flew F-4 Phantoms in the 80's and F-15 E Strike Eagles in the 90's. 42 Combat missions in Desert Storm I. Then became a military analyst working for the Air Force, which I still do part-time (semi retired). Wife and 3 kids, one in Phoenix, one in Lafayette IN, and one on active Duty in the USAF (EOD Officer). So I guess in a way I play wargames for a living

Been wargaming since the mid-70's with D&D as well as the old Avalon Hill board games. Computers sure made things easier (even the old ones like the ATAri 800XL which was my first one). Enjoy most Tiller games. Big fan of his WWII and Black Powder games (ACW and Napoleon).

I'm pretty busy, I'm an xray tech, a PACS coordinator both at a local hospital. I also coach High School basketball, and play guitar in a local band. Other than that, life is pretty boring. =)

I stay busy building new bridges. After spending 22 years in surveying, designing subdivisions and the like, I rolled into highway construction inspection. From my background, the bosses decided I should primarily work with the bridges. Over the past 21 years, I've had a hand in the engineering and inspection of 35 new bridges, primarily in Virginia. One is in Vegas, over I-15 alongside the Bellagio; the smallest is a foot bridge just north of Ketchum, Idaho.

The latest is mostly in Maryland, where I'm on a new, 2-mile long bridge being constructed over the Potomac at Dahlgren, VA. I am a consultant construction manager for the owner, performing QA services during the work. We're located about 4 miles downstream from Mathias Point, the site of a small action in June 1861.

The work is interesting and keeps me out of trouble. The downside is that 12-14 hour shifts, 6 or 7 days a week, severely cuts into my gaming time. I expect that this will be my last before retirement.

Retired AF Joined in 1976 got out in 1980 and went back in 1985 put in 22 years. Worked as a Munitions Maintenance Specialist
(Providing the enemy the opportunity to die for his country). Worked for the Dept of Public Works in Newport News, Va. I am now fully retired.
I have been war gamming starting in the late 60's thru the early 80's with Avalon Hill and Strategy & Tactics, I really liked that Magazine that came with a game every two months. Came back to gamming in the 2000's with the computer. I am glad I found this group because I was close to dropping out gamming again because playing against the AI got boring real fast.

Ok, I'm bored because no Rebs want a campaign.

Retired now. Born, raised, and worked all my life in LA. Now live in wonderful WA.

Worked 32 years in aerospace as a programmer mostly. SDC, TRW, and Northrup Grumman.

One son, Jeff 30. Three more kids when I married my (current) wife. Oldest is about to drop a unit so first grandkid. Wife is upset she can't travel to VA for it, thanks for handling the pandemic response govt.

Currently have 3 dogs, Australian Shepherds, Bode - black tri male 10, Moze DM (deaf rescue) 5, and Quinn, blue merle gerle, almost 18 months.

Grew up on Avalon Hill boardgames, played Gettysburg when I was 10? Have just gone through a quarantine cleaning arranging all my old S&T's and other mags and games. Rueing the fact the when my dad passed I didn't grab EVERYTHING he had, but I didn't have enough room.

Just upgraded 2 PC's and 3 laptops with my son when he visited.

Since I retired I wrote a novel, DOG TAGS: REDEMPTION that I have been querying. Contemporary, starring an Australian Shepherd and a wounded/PTSD vet.
Am writing a book with working title 'The Rifle', about a civil war rifle that time travels. His uncle changed history and couldn't change it back and left it to his nephew to "fix everything", he has some decisions to make.

Sort of learned to play guitar, but I don't practice enough.

Oh, started playing Bridge competitively again with my older brother (who also moved up here). He made life master at a tournament just before March and we have played since then. The virus is extra dangerous for most bridge players (old coots).

So, I'm playing with my boardgames (Bulge 81) and waiting to get into many games here again with the club.

I live in Madison, WI where I run road tests for the state DMV here. It's...interesting. Definitely a job which keeps me on my toes. I've conducted over 4,000 tests over my career, and I'm always amazed that I have not experienced more than a couple of minor collisions (dented bumper, scuffed mailbox) over the time. I've definitely had a lot of near misses and close calls.

I got started with the Great Campaigns of the American Civil War series. I've played a lot of Jackson in the Valley, Stonewall Jackson's Way, Here Come the Rebels. I love how MMP is breathing new life into the series and adding games to the mix. I've played a lot of Across Five Aprils, amongst others. I really got hooked into civil war history in '93 when Gettysburg came out. Got into civil war reenacting for a while, and did a lot of reenacting as the 2nd Wisconsin.

Madison has a Veteran's museum which sports quite a bit of Iron Brigade stuff, including the regimental flags, which are displayed on occasion. I've been partial to the 2nd and the Iron Brigade, largely because I suspect that if I had been a volunteer in april '61, I likely would have wound up in the 2nd. My family history is fairly mobile, so it's hard to say where my family could have been in 1861, so I've always just went with where I was living when I was 18. In a strange way, the story of the Iron Brigade feels like an answer to my youthful question "what would my experience in a civil war army have been like?"

I have been able to trace civil war lineage to my maternal great great grandfather. He was a member of the 36th Texas Cavalry as the units' assistant surgeon. Apparently he owned a slave, which was kind of a shock to discover. I've also got a great great uncle on my father's side from Utica NY who wound up in the 21st New York light artillery.
