Army Overviews

CSA

From the tent of Gen. ‘Dee Dubya’ Mallory:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Gentlemen,

After serving faithfully as VMI Commandant, General Arnold has decided to step down when his term expires at the beginning of October. He has asked to be reassisgned to his beloved III Corps in the ANV.

As the next VMI Commandant, I am naming Brigadier General Nick Kunz. General Kunz has agreed to serve and is packing his bags and working on other arrangements as we speak.

On 10/1, I will make the changes in the Department of Records to show General Kunz as VMI Commandant and to reassign General Arnold to the ANV. General Arnold will be awarded the Richard S. Ewell Medal of Service at that time, as well. (At that time, I will send a reminder to General Huels to assign General Arnold to the ANV and a reminder to General Cross to update the CSA HQ page.)

Please join me at the VMI Tavern for the formal announcement, to be followed by a party at the Mason-Dixon Tavern in honor of these two fine officers.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The ANV is running a competition where officers are awarded prizes for the highest Kill and Capture results from in their games. This is an interesting way to add a bit more competitiveness to the games, increase the activity within an Army, and give the boys a bit more to brag about. ;-) The winners for July were:

Capture – Col. Rudy Zodda for capturing Col Percy Wyndham at Brandy Station

Kill – Lt.Gen. Tony Hill for killing MG John McPherson at Recasa.

Also, the ANV has had a temporary change in command. Army CO B.Gen. Scott Ludwig is taking a much needed furlough and B.Gen. Dave Bowman, commander of the III Corps, ANV, will be filling in as army CO until Gen. Ludwig returns.

VMI reports the following 3 graduations for the month of July:

Lt Larry Mills
Lt Jeff Conner
Lt Przemek Niedzielski

VMI reports the following 4 graduations for the month of August:

Lt Jason Reeves
Lt Emilio Suarez
Lt Terry Scott
Lt Col David Ray (a returning former member reinstated after re-training at VMI – welcome back.)

Please welcome these new officers, and help them get active in the club. Remember how hard it was to get a good set of opponents when you first started...make sure these guys get some games and stick around with us for a while!

Cabinet Topics

Over the past month the Cabinet has reviewed the Rank/Point system and the issue of revamping it. No decision made as to what should be done. (A possible survey to be put together of the Membership for further enlightenment.)

Auto Promotion system. A policy is being discussed on this subject. The current view is to have CC and up announce promotions, with the Auto system sending out emails as to who is up for promotion. The details still are being discussed.

Otherwise the summer period has been slow due to summer fun!

Articles

The club news bureau, the Signal Corps, is looking for some more volunteers. They're looking for help with writing, editing, ideas, etc. Please pass this on to your commands. There are several members of the club with journalistic leanings (if the postings at the taverns are any indication!), so if anyone is interested in this aspect of club participation please have contact General Rich Hamilton at SC@hist-sdc.com

Hobby Wide Activities

This last month saw the relocation of content from the Scenario Design Center to the Strategy Zone Online (SZO) site. The primary benefit of this to the community is that designers are now able to upload their own work as they complete it, rather than having to wait for it to be done for them. They are also able to update it as revisions are made. Additionally, people can "rate" the downloads to help others know if they are worth playing. So, grab downloads for all your favorite HPS games here: http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forum ... o=cat&id=4

And, just as a little teaser...planning has begun for Tiller Con II...watch for details in future issues.

Thank you,

Lt. Col. Alan Lynn

Please if you can.

I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.
