Gen Golen: Notso I think said you didn't have time to souvenier shop. If you have anything in mind you'd want, I could drive up there around mid September, get it and mail it to you... It's about 65/70 miles from me I think.

Wow is right [:)], excellent time was had, my only regret, there wasn't more time, Friday evening and Saturday just flew by.
It's always a unique experience talking to someone about quality ratings, fatigue points and melee results and they actually understand what in the world you're talking about.
It was great to finally meet in person with folks that I've know for several years but only through e-mail, and also making new friends that I hadn't bumped into on the field of battle yet.
I really want to thank Russ for instigating this Gathering, Bill Spitz for the wonderful battlefield narration, Notso for putting together the logistics that made it all happen and to everyone else that attended and made it such a good time!

It was a great time. Even the weather cooperated. It was wonderful
meeting people I've known for half a decade, and also new friends
I'll have for the next half.

I have only one complaint. The rickshaw service promised by a
certain junior officer of the AoA did not materialize. And....
as has already been mentioned, in some sort of weak pre-emtive
strike, the moose is, in fact, not a moose. It is...a reindeer.
Now...since the AoA has a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, I won't
go into the details of the bells on the ends of his antlers, other
than to say....they are there.

Thank you to all who made this trip possible, and so enjoyable
while there. Larry, a salute to you for handling the logistics
and organization so well.

Next time: Sharpsburg/South Mountain

Gentlemen <salute>

Oh my gosh, has it been almost 6 months since our small gathering at Gettysburg? Wowzers! I feel so left out and yet I have a warm smile as I know exactly what ya'll felt! Good job Russ and Larry!

Antietam, wow, but then throw in South Mountain! I got a quick look at S/M on my way back from Gettysburg last March. It was really moving to look out across the valley below and imagine sitting up at those passes and watching the Union Army gather it's strength and then begin marching up the hill! The really nice thing about the place is that it really is little changed in all those years.

Until we meet again my friends! <SALUTE>

thank you for your kind offer. Grover and I decided we will make up for not getting our matching Union keppis by purchasing them at Antietam next year. Hope we will see you there as well.
Col. Daley,

First you hint to everyone the truth then you try to pawn it off as a joke. Since you now have everyone confused, we may as well tell all.

On Friday evening we gathered at the hotel lounge to get to know one another. After a couple of hours of … shall we say … thoroughly enjoying each other’s company and staying well lubricated, I decided to step out front from some fresh air.

Outside I met up with one of Pennsylvania’s finest. I was in shock and awe that this uniformed gentleman was no more than 5 foot 4 inches tall. Needless to say I inquired of this protector of the public the rules and regulations for the minimum height requirement for his chosen career. All that was well and good until I made the mistake of saying something about how did someone as short as you get onto the force. I knew then and there that I had made a grave mistake.

The next thing I knew I was sprawled across the hood of his car, I was frisked, and then my hands were handcuffed behind me. For such a short dude he sure did move fast.

As the officer was starting to place me in the back of his cruiser, the front door to the hotel swung open. Out stepped a dominant figure whose mere presence commanded attention and respect. The light coming through the windows behind silhouetted him in an eerie bask of glory. The officer froze in his tracks.

In a trembling tone I thought I would never experience from an officer of the line, he told me to stay exactly where I was and not to move. All I said was “yes suh.â€

Did this mysterious stranger jingle his way out the front door of the hotel?

Wow, great pics, would be nice to know who is who in the shots! I think I recognize Russ, but the hair is a little too short to be sure! And I know John. I can guess at Don Golen, but need some help on the rest! Sorry Boss (Jon Cuneo)!

Respectfully,

What a beautiful bunch of happy campers! Oh no Don, I am not going to bite on that one. My gosh, Scott is right, Baron von Beergut! Is that what I think it is in his hand. Good to finally get a good look at you Boss(Jon Cuneo) and your lovely wife Pat!

Where was that taken, out by the 'Angle'?

Well someone was talking about going to Sharpsburg and South Mountain next summer! I also have a seed to plant, in late February of next year I am planning on a tour of the Peninsula battlefields outside of Richmond. This would be Saturday, February 24th, 2007. Anyone up for that!

I just wanted to bring this topic back as next year is here! I believe that the battlefields of destination are Antietam and South Mountain? Is there a time frame for this trip?
