I received this note from the wife of a MDT visitor who posted a few times. I did not know the fellow, he was a member of the MDT. If any of you wish to send condolences that would be great.

Here is her note:.

"I am writing to the board to let you know that one of your members, John Tristan Schuler, has died. As his wife, I know that Tris spent a lot of his time posting messages to the board and discussing war simulations, etc. with you.

Tris is survived by a 19-year-old daughter in Spain, who would dearly love to hear your stories/comments about her dad. If you wish, you can contact me at sdewitz@mchsi.com, and I will relay your messages to her.

Thank you for sharing one of Tris's most important fascinations!....................Katie "

Wow, sorry to hear that. Tris was only midly active here, but very much so on other forums. Sad to see a fellow wargmer pass. [:(]

This came as a tragic shock when I heard this early in the week.

Tris, my friend, was engaged on multiple wargaming fronts from the ACW to WWII.

"Ubiquitous" might best describe his participation across the web.

The ACW Club was new to him, and yet with a copy of Mr. Tiller's Gettysburg in hand, Tris offered (via the ACW Club Mason-Dixon forum first), a custom OOB unit breakdown scheme for the Gettysburg game.

As the the proprietary code locks out any custom 'tinkering', Tris' OOB remains under review, last we heard, back at Mr. Tiller's front -- for still possible inclusion in a future update.

In homage to Tris, I would humbly ask additional consideration for Tris' final contribution to the wargaming community to be included in such an update -- strictly as an option. Thank you.

As Katie noted, he may have proved more comfortable as a measured recluse, so it's understandable how he sought out / longed for a more determined, challenging, skillful "AI" opponent with which to replay and investigate, at his leisure, any myriad of "what-if" possibilites that came to mind. He doubtless is still searching the cosmos for a better AI, eh? I share in his quest.

Indefatigable. Ubiquitous. Never-say-die, yet a forever sincere and heartfelt wargaming contributor and warm, gracious, mutual friend to me is how I will best remember Tris. Of course, he was much more, but the fault lies in me for not permitting myself to know him better over the course of time.

And perhaps his still guiding wargaming mantra: The future.

You will be sorely missed, dear friend.
