Sirs, due to my yahoo being limited and now not letting me edit my pages, I am working on one using Microsoft Office 2003 publishing. I know I have to get a web company to let me load it to the net. I need to know what is best. Is there any free sites, whats the cheapest if I have to pay, and how difficult would it be to edit this and keep it going. Any help would be appeciated. SALUTE!

Gen Malone,

I use Bravenet to host my sites. heres the link http://www.bravenet.com/
they have free hosting as well as pay hosting. I think mine was $200.00 for 5 years, or something like that.

I would caution you about using 2003 Publisher. I started out with that as well and while it makes building pages easy it becomes harder to edit/update those pages without starting all over. Further, it will look ok on your PC but not on others PCs , nor in programs other than IE. For these reasons I switched to Frontpage and found that its actually a better program. I now do all my work with Frontpage and am pleased with that.

Just some thoughts.

Dan

General Malone,

I used Tripod for my old I Corps, AotM site. Tripod was a free hosting service, although they may have an upgraded fee-based option with more bells & whistles.

I did my design the hard way, using Notepad & native html. Fortunately, General Nix was an excellent tutor -- and my high school son was a big help, as well. Also, my site wasn't at all fancy.

The next time I set up a site I would much prefer using a graphic front-end designer, but I have no experience with any so I can't make any recommendations in that regard.

Your humble servant,

Sent you an email Tony, don't know how much help it is compared to some of the others. Kind of the same deal.

I am using Front Page and Geocities, which still has free hosting options.

Front Page is easy to use if you can pick up a copy (easy for me, living in the land of Microsofties[:D])

I use Frontpage too as it allows quick and easy editing. I like to keep an eye on the code being produced though and edit out anything unnecessary - I learned HTML years ago with messing around in notepad and still like to keep things simple. Keeping the code minimal keeps the file size down and hopefully prevents incompatibility issues.

There are some FRONTPAGE look (and feel)-a-likes that are more reasonable and perhaps free.

I'll see if I can dig up the information on these programs.

Thank you all for the suggestions so far. I tried to work the HTML thing before but could never understand it much, I am looking for my old copy of front page right now, so it stands as a work inprogress. SALUTE!
