Santa brought me "A Blaze of Glory" by Jeff Shaara and "Gettysburg July 1" by David Martin, looking forward to reading these when I finish "Tried by War" by James McPherson that I find interesting.
Did anyone else get some good reading material?

Instead of an ACW book, my wife gave me a bathrobe. She said that I have entirely too many books about the Civil War and that she'd only be adding to the massive headache of getting rid of all of them when I pass on. Not to be ignored I opened up my Gordon C. Rhea book on The Battle of the Wilderness for a long overdue second read. This was entirely in keeping with my current battlecard. Cam McOmish and I have taken the forbiden plunge into the monster 1390-turn Overland Campaign scenario, with the understanding that if either of us dies before the game has been concluded, the other merits a Major Victory. As we are both downright gritty players and expect to squeeze the last once of enjoyment from the game, we believe that it may very well go the distance if we don't die first.

I would be curious to know how far anyone has played the Overland monster scenario. Anyone? Anyone?

David . . . I love Martin's "July 1st" book. By far my favorite on Day One. Read it three times to date. Enjoy!

I just finished reading Howard Bahr's, The Black Flower to roughly coincide with the 150th anniversary of the battle of Franklin. I believe that it is one of the greatest Civil War novels written. I highly recommend this novel to all members of the ACWGC. You can find it on Amazon, read reviews by other readers, then purchase for almost nothing. If you haven't read it yet you owe it to yourself to do so. It will rekindle or remind you why you are passionate about the American Civil War whether Blue or Grey.

I'll second the recommendation of "The Black Flower."
