The Battlefield: A custom 9 turn Oak Hill.

Gentlemen!

As we all know a mountain of text has been written about Gettysburg and the why's of the confederate defeat. However, in those discussions there has been very little written about Rodes poorly coordinated attack on Day 1. Rodes had the largest division in the Army of Northern Virginia (if not the best). Yet, he lost over 30% of his division against a force less than half his size. We all know why and how this happened.

So! What if Gen. Rodes had waited another half an hour to make his attack on Robinson's division on Oak Ridge. Rodes delay allows Robinson to position Paul's Brigade in close reserve behind Baxter and Cutler. Schurz deploys Schimmelfennig to support Baxter's right flank. Gen. Early has received orders to support Rodes and has redeployed to compensate for Gen. Doles Brigade being shifted West to concentrate Rodes attack. Can Rodes crush Robinson's Division on the first assault and with Early's assistance cause the Union line to collapse earlier in the day and leave enough daylight to capture the heights south of Gettysburg.

It is now 3PM on day one and Rodes has used an additional 30 to 40 minutes to carefully deploy his division for a concentrated attack. Gen. Early has double timed his men West to support Rodes leaving his divisional artillery and its protection Smith's Virginia Brigade behind.

Let the battle begin!

Opponent Selection will be based on random selection done as follows:
• Each officer in the two pairing pools will be given a number, the number only will be sent to a member of cabinet to select which numbers will be matched up and side allocated.
• The Tournament Directors are not allowed to alter on which side or who an officer plays.
This will be done for each of the two rounds.

Respectfully,

It has been awhile, but I think I have finally figured out how to properly log in on this forum. I am here waiting for my assignment to the tournament.

This looks a great tournament. Many thanks to Nick Kunz and Larry Mills for putting it together - great to see the support and the guys playing games. Regrettably RL is in my way at present.

Enjoy!

Hi, Ernie,

I think it means real life, and it can be really hard to get out of the way. But if anybody can do it, you're the man! :D

Game one of the BoB tournament completed - My Rebs put a good old fashion whoopin' on the yanks and Gen'l Gene Nix. Don't want to get too cocky, for now it is his turn to play the good guys, and after one turn of this second game, my blue belly boys are already runnin' for the hills...…..was sure a lot more fun playing the gray.

Salute and Congratulations to MG Gary Krenek on his well-executed victory in round one of BoB! I was certain after the first half that it had to be the ill-fitting blue garments, trimmed as they are for a somewhat less-lean & less-mean sort of soldier, but then General Krenek demonstrated how one goes about maximizing the defensive opportunities. At least I have a pretty new ribbon to wear. More of a wound badge, really. Well played sir, and good fortune to your fellows in the rest of the show!

Salute!

Thanks for the kind word, Gen'l Nix - but he doesn't quite tell the whole story. While I did score a major victory over Gene as the Confederate side, his narrative would lead you to believe I did the same as with the Yankee side. What actually happened in game two with me as the yank, was that I was able to hold onto one victory hex by the skin of my teeth (Gene took the other two) resulting in a Confederate minor victory. I'm just glad that whoever designed this scenario made it 9 moves long, and not 10 as Gen'l Nix was knocking on the door to that last victory hex.

Thanks again to everyone that had a hand in this tournament - has given me a chance to meet via email guys on the good side (Confederate, of course) that I normally don't get to meet.

SALUTE!
