ACWGC 2019 Tournament - Meeting at Dawn (aka MAD)

The Battles

Two of the issues we face when playing historical battles are: they are not always strength balanced and officers will always have the ability to know where his/her opponent’s units are and when and where their reinforcements arrive. To help mitigate these two issues and to add more mystery this tournament only uses meeting engagements, all of which are customised. The tournament will only use JTS Gettysburg – latest version.
The battles will range from 2 Corps size, down to Division size and will be matched as follows:
• The same number and types of troops, with the same morale ratings
• The same number and types of Artillery
• The same amount of supply and artillery rounds

Tournament Directors

The tournament will have two directors who will be responsible to the ACWGC Cabinet for running the event. The directors will have the right to alter and or amend any of the tournament rules as they see fit. Officers who require some form of Tournament redress are to contact the directors via e-mail only. However, any Tournament questions/clarifications can be asked at the MDT
The Tournament Directors, will undertake the following:
• Create the meeting engagements
• Select the scenario pertaining to the round
• Set the scenario up with the optional rules selected - this is all optional rules except Manual Defensive Fire. Extreme Fog of War will be used
• Start the 1st turn
• Give the scenario a coded file name
• Send the turn to the 1st player, plus any other files required if the scenario is a custom version
• Register the battle at the DoR
The length of the battle will be kept were possible to a minimum of 20 turns and a maximum of 40.

Tournament System

• Players will fight one battle per round and the winner of each battle will go through to the next round and so on.
• Players will sign up at the MDT, on a first come first served basis – based on the posting time stamp
• The tournament will be restricted to a maximum of 64 officers and a minimum of 8
• Pairing up will start when the following conditions are met:
o One week after the first officer has posted their wish to take part, and
o Eight officers have signed up
• The next pairing up will only occur when there is a total of 16 (another eight) officers signed up
• The next pairing up will only occur when there is a total of 32 (another 16) officers signed up
• The next pairing up will only occur when there is a total of 64 officers (another 32) signed up
• Sign up for the tournament will be over a 1 calendar month period only
• Officers who have signed up in that period, but where there are not enough officers to make the16, 32, or 64 totals, will miss out
• The number of tournament rounds required to get a final winner will be as follows:
o 8 Officers signed up = 3 rounds to final
o 16 Officers signed up = 4 rounds to final
o 32 Officers signed up = 5 rounds to final
o 64 Officers signed up = 6 rounds to final

• Once a round is finished the next will start

Opponent Selection

Opponent selection will be based on random selection. So, it is very likely that officers may end up playing officers from their own side of the club. Selection will be done as follows:
• Each officer in the pool of 8 will be given a number, the number only will be sent to a member of cabinet to select which numbers will be matched up and side allocated
• The Tournament Directors are not allowed to alter on which side or who an officer plays.
This will be done for each round until the final.

Tournament Battle Rules:

• The battles will be played with a separate melee phase (i.e. move then melee), with the optional rules selected as per above:
• The rules of battle are in accordance with ACWGC Rules Section 5.1 Gaming. There are to be no other house rules etc, only those stated 5.1
• The winner will be the player who achieves a Major or Minor Victory
• In the event of a Draw then the player with the most points closest to victory will be the winner. Should there still be tie then a short 8-10 turn sudden death battle will be played.
• All battles will be registered at the DoR, with the term MADT placed in the comments section.
• All battles will be registered as per normal i.e. if you are playing an officer from the same side it will be a Manoeuvre.
• Battles are to be played at a rate of not less than 3 turns per week
• Any player absent for more than two weeks may be deemed to have lost their battle and their opponent will be declared the winner for tournament purposes

Real Life

Due to the fact that real life has the audacity to impinge on our gaming from time to time the Tournament Directors will make every effort where they can to accommodate competing Officers various issues i.e. turn speed etc

Awards

There will be a tournament ribbon for all participants. The ribbon will have a 2R on it for getting to the second, a 3R for the third etc. The overall winner would have a W on the ribbon and the overall 2nd place getter will have an FR on theirs.
Each CoA may award any other medals as they see fit.
