Gentlemen,
I received the following message when I tried opening a file from my opponent:
"[ERROR ID 1000] (ModemM.cpp, line 3040, ModenMenu::EmailBattleStart()) Saves/pbemail file data read error"
The game let me continue, but Fog of War was no longer working - when I went to the Jump Map, I could see the location of all of my opponent's forces! I immediately exited out of the game and deleted the files from the game folder (it was a campaign game, so there were three files for the turn at that time). I then went back to the email and downloaded the file again, but with the same results. I again deleted the files.
I was informed that this might have been caused by a transmission error and that having my opponent resend the file might resolve it, so I've taken that step.
Years ago, when we only played using the Talonsoft system, standard procedure in the club was to zip (compress) all files, to prevent a transmission error from happening (or, at least, to reduce the chances of it happening). Nowadays, however, no one seems to zip files anymore.
My question is, why is this no longer done?
