So which side is Sam on here? First he is a Reb and then a Yank?

At least, I say, at least we always know where Foghorn Leghorn stands.

Actually, the one in the BLUE is Sam's cousin Billy from the North. ;) The only way to tell them apart is their uniform color or mustaches.

The end of the story. Anything after this is a pack of lies.

Gents Colonel Foghorn Leghorn is currently my Adjutant, a fine fellow. Although I would not rate his chances at Petersburg, a big chicken and lots of hungry Rebs, it would not end well  The image of me put up by Jason was of me some years ago, I have since got much taller and the moustache has got much smaller :)

My wife & I hiked a part of the Appalachian Trail a couple weekends ago that goes right past the Mason-Dixon Line. We were going to an area called High Rock and had parked up trail from it in what used to be Fort Ritchie, if any veteran service members had served there, they'd be familiar with the area. I normally drive across the Line each time I go to Gettysburg but hadn't walked across it yet. As an aside there's a road on the drive to Gettysburg just past the Line that's Mason Dixon Road and there's a farm along it called Mason Dixon Line farm.

Back to the original point, we walked briefly up to where they had a marker for the Line, in the woods along the Trail and then headed south towards High Rock.

In Fort Ritchie at the park where you get onto the AT there was a a Civil War Trails sign for the Fight at Monterey Pass (which is actually a bit behind the park to the northeast) for the Gettysburg Campaign retreat. The below are some photos:

Scott,

That is just crazy! I was stationed at Fr. Ritchie from November 1974 thru December of 1976! There were no markers of that kind then that I was aware of!

I did get over to Quirauk Mountain transmission tower and at that time it was unmanned on the High Rock Road. A group of us climb up it in the cold windy November night! That was a long time ago!

Beautiful little post, there was about 800 of us stationed there. The real mission at that time was to support Site R which was an underground (actually a free standing 3 story building built inside a drilled out mountain) facility which in a time of national emergency the Secretary of Defense and his staff would be serving there. Camp David is not far from there too! I believe the Post was closed in the 1990's!

Forgot to mention that I was married to my bride there at the Post Chapel which still stands today!

Respectfully,

Your Obedient Servant,

General Nick Kunz
Commandant, VMI

Hey Nick,

That's too funny! 8)

I'd imagine the markers were done some time later. I also think there's some tower still in the area, though it may be a cell one these days. It was a bit humid the day we did it, so I imagine a windy November night is quite a thrill! :) That's pretty cool though the reason for it. Sort of like Mount Weather further down the mountain chain.

There's a legal battle going on over what remains of the post. Great architecture though and will try to get some photos if we go again.
