On a recent field of battle a young VMI graduate, now with the ANV, recovered a trophy after the enemy had fled the field. He was kind enough to send it along to VMI where we might display, what is, perhaps, the best likeness yet of Lt. Col. "Cannon Fodder" Campbell in his full military uniform.

Image

On the back of the photo is a touching and poignant poem, entitled, "Ode to my Cat".

Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue.
Sugar is sweet,
And so is your poo.

Signed, and written, in his signature color crayon we are thrilled to add this wonderful piece of Yankee Memorabilia to our collection. We will also soon be opening a "Jason Campbell Wing" at VMI just to accommodate the extra inventory.

It appears that Colonel Campbell was surprised by the photographer whilst exiting the privy. Dare we think the Colonel spent the battle hiding there, playing with his kitty? Adorned in white, did he suppose he'd be camouflaged? I think not... It's just that his nighty doubles as a surrender flag.

I suspect this will become the centerpiece of the exhibit. An excellent piece, General, most excellent.

<salute>

*drains glass and refills it with a nearby bottle of Old Crow*
I hate to point out the obvious, gentlemen, but that is obviously not myself. My legs look way better than that.

Don't follow the example of these poor misguided Southern officers, kids. Stay off the laudanum. It's a horrible drug. :lol:

Everything else in the photo then, from the nightie, to the cat, to the hat, to the missing sword, you admit to be true. Tis only your legs you take issue with?

Gentlemen, are we to believe such falsehoods? If it walks, talks, and quacks like a duck... it's a duck. That is the real Cannon Fodder Campbell.

Don't worry Col. my spy was in a reb camp the other night and overheard this coming from a Generals tent last night and there was no women in camp.

Well...there you have it.
* takes a drink from freshly uncorked bottle *
Lets try a little deductive reasoning here, General Meadows. If it is not my legs, it stands to reason the rest of this...this...photographic falsehood can not be real as well.
By the way, General. * takes another drink from the bottle *
I've heard your southern loyalty is in question, sir. Someone said you wash your cast iron skillet in the dishwasher. If true, I would assume that this would be grounds for a court martial from the good old CSA. :lol:

General Mihalik, sir...I can assure you there is no cause for alarm there. I'm keeping these fine looking gams under cover! :D

General Meadows, suh! {Salute}

I can definitely attest that the photo you have presented of Lt. Colonel Campbell is accurate in every detail.

It was taken using the latest wet-plate technology near Perryville, Kentucky.

Why, you can even see his headquarters prominently positioned in the background.

That is tha man, suh! Why he seems so hell bent on denial is a complete mystery to me.

Twasn't it Campbell what's was complaining a few weeks back we Rebs was a too quiet around here? I tried to warn him. We may not always be here but when we come around we do cause a heap a trouble.

As Lt. Colonel Campbell has been seen quite often slippin' away in and out of our camp, it might well be that this photograph was captured as he was leaving early on one frosty mornin'. I had to look away... And the howls that evenin' prior sure sounded of him 'n I heard whichever General holler "I shor am glad to be in Dixie" I can certainly attest that it was not General Jackson whose tent he was visiting. I do believe the colonel has shown quite a fondness for one of the younger brigadiers. Not that there's anythin' at all wrong with that

I think you are mistaken us Union boys have plenty of entertainment since we moved south. As you well know the northern girls say you can where the southern girls say you all can. So it's very unlikely that he would sneak across reb lines for some crusty old wannabe horse groomer.

Here Lt. Col. Newell. Let me buy you a drink, sir.
You can't argue with those who have given their life to the wiles of laudanum.
Besides...it's nice to see the little grey urchins come out to play for a change. :D
Cigar, sir?

Thanks for the drink and the cigar Lt Col. Campbell.
Since we liberated most of the south we finally get good tobacco. It's good that some of the urchins are coming out to play but they like playing hide and seek. They can run but they can't hide forever.

Campbell this next rounds on me and I'll even buy a round for those reb officers that are cowering in the woods.
