General Ernie Sands <salute>

General Joseph C. Meyer submitted a recommendation that the Cabinet award you the ACWGC Legion of Merit Medal.

Among other things, Genera Meyer stated in his recommendation that:

“General Sands represents ACWGC bedrock. He may be considered as a founding member in that regard who rigorously looked to the structure and observance of the Club Rules, in the face of sometimes hostile objection, to keep order in what could have become a loose, wild and chaotic assemblage. The ACWGC's Legion of Merit Medal can only be awarded by the unanimous consent of the Cabinet, therefore becoming the highest service award possible for any member. General Sands has already received this award in the past for his work and perseverance as the Department of Records gatekeeper, the core program that continuously operates with great effect and precision every day behind the scenes. Yet this recommendation of a second such award must be limited to the merits of his tenure as the most recent Club President, wherein he struggled to keep the stability and welfare of the club paramount in his focus and provide a fundamental leadership where few others were inclined to volunteer. If the Cabinet issues this second medal to him, he will be the only ACWGC member so recognized, such recognition providing a standard against which all future awardances will be compared.”

The Cabinet unanimously agrees and, on its behalf, it is my honor and privilege to award you the ACWGC Legion of Merit Medal.

With my highest regards and respect, Congratulations General Sands!

General Sands/Ernie, many thanks for your willingness to serve and lead our club. Thank you for all that you did over the past 5 years as Club President to enable the rest of us to enjoy this club and the gaming opportunities it affords. <SALUTE!>

Gentlemen, Sirs! <salute>

Ernie, I certainly concur and wish to thank you for the untiring effort that you continue to preform on a daily basis for all of us in our gaming Club!

Looks like you are going to need a wheelbarrow to haul all of your Club awards from all of these years!

Respectfully,

Your Obedient Servant,

General Nick Kunz
Commandant, VMI

This club is a highlight of my retirement and I know, no, I have some idea of how much work goes into keeping it all together. Thank you for every minute you've spent helping to keep this gem, the ACWGC, alive and well!

General Sands, sir <salute>

Way back when I was Club President (or before? the only time-keeper doesn't work as well as it once did) and some chaos had ensued, your name was the one brought up to lead a committee to resolve the issue, because of your stature on both sides of the club. You stepped up to the plate and got things settled, and I realized why you had been held in such high esteem.

Later, I met you at a TillerCon convention at Franklin, Tennessee and I had lunch with you and your lovely wife, at a McAlister's Deli, I believe. That may be when I learned you were retired from the Marine Corps. It's no wonder you were admired by so many.

Congratulations on the well-deserved honor, my friend.

Gentlemen, the next round is on me, in honor of General Sands!
