Also, The New York Times began publishing in 1852 and reported on the Civil War. Major city libraries may have the NYTimes available in microfilm as may some local college libraries. As well, the NYT has finished its digitalization project and is available as the Historical NYTimes as an electronic database. Databases such as these are accessible through libraries; for example, The Boston Public Library and the Minuteman Library system in the greater Boston area carry this database.

Try http://www.archive.org/stream/regulatio ... 1/mode/2up
to read a copy of an 1862 Confederate regulation for the military. Or better yet, the archive.org site can lead to fantastic overload if you experiment with it. Careful or it will eat into your gaming time.

Another valuable site is www.footnote.com and it's especially great if you are chasing ancestory type questions.

Mark, I should look for that. I kept trying to find Ernie's but the site only goes back to the Revolutionary War.
