Guys,

We have quite a few members now, around 130 "active" members according to the rolls, but I am guessing we are closer to 30 really active people, and the rest aren't too involved.

So my question is, what do we need to do to bring the other 100 or so members into the fold and get them a little more active??

We have a tournament going, and we'll probably look at setting up an 1812 tourney in the not to distant future.

What else? What do you, the membership, think we should do about this? I would appreciate it if each of you Divisional/Department level leaders would mail your commands and ask them to stop by and contribute.

One thought that occured to me was to try and visit some of the more achedemic boards on the net and get some poeple to come here to discuss the historical aspects of the era. Maybe we'd get some more gamers into the fold, and it would probably generate a decent amount of traffic in here...

Please let us know what you think. We want to hear from you.

Regards,

Rich Hamilton

An interesting question and I don't think there is an easy answer. Tournaments seem to get a few new players competing and we have about a 40% of the total club participating. The armies are almost even, but we have quite a few players looking for games and no takers. Looking at the CCC message stats, the Colonial Tavern has about one half the posts of the other clubs, but has a much smaller member base. So we do get members in to the board and that is important in keeping interest and for posting and answering challenges. I hope we get a lot of responses to this thread.

Hey Ernie,

We have some many posts in the stats because me, you, Al, Garry, Bill and a couple of others "talk" so much! I know the 5 of us make up at least 30% of the posts!

I too hope people ring in on this and let us know their thoughts...

Rich

I have only been visiting your message board for a short time having only had 1776 for a few weeks. I am a regular visitor to The Blitz and though I have played WF an EF and was a tester of Rising Sun, I am more attracted to the Civil War Games. There is a small dedicated following of Civil War at The Blitz. I think these are potential 1776 and 1812 players. I have sent von Krieg a list of 1776 scenarios. He is introducing it for anyone who wishes to discuss the game. I think that The Blitz might be a good place to leave messages for players who wish to visit this site. I could see some eventually becoming involved.

Will be glad to see you join up Jon! Been a while since you and I interacted!

Thanks for the post, too, Frank. You can get a complete list of all the 1776 and 1812 scenarios off our new and end game forms. (Just right click on the page and choose "view source" to be able to copy and paste them out.) These include the 1812 expansion package scenarios as well as the add on scenarios for both from my SDC.

Could you please send me the link to The Blitz forum and I will stop by over there.

Thanks,

Rich

I think we ought to recruit heavily amongst the re-enactment groups, and other historical groups. Perhaps a recruiting officer would help their respective armies with this activity.

Jon,

Will be glad to help you get the hang of the game Sir! Just drop me a line when you are ready. Also, we are in the process of setting up a new training facility for the club as a whole, so that will assist all members entering the games.

Scott, that is an excellent idea...problem for me is, I don't know anyone who reenacts this time period!! I will have to keep my eyes open. I live in Richomnd, Virginia. Maybe I can take a trip down to Yorktown and see if they would consider carrying some copies of the game in their gift shop...any one else live close to battlefields?

A good place to start might be the British Brigade website

I just received 1776 and have been playing 1812 for a few months.

Ask for members home cities to identify areas where members might actually meet face to face for an evening of hot seat wargaming, or social gathering, such as a pot luck. This might increase participation as members become comfortable sharing their views an opinions on-line once they have done so in so in a less formal setting.

That's a pretty good idea Art. I have met several gaming partners from various parts of the country. Had a good time, every time.

Any one live in the Richmond, VA area?

Rich,
I facing the same problem in my I. Prussian Corps (NWC). Some officers but not much reactions. It's no special CCC problem. I try to hold contact to my men and let them know that there is someone out there if they having questions or problems. Hope this helps a little bit.

I only hope we get a notice if someone cannot find an oppoent before he resign frustrated. I'm ready for each battle if needed.

The language maybe an other point. Not all of our members speaking english very well. I think I understand all but my grammer must be 'difficult'.

It would be great to see some of you from face to face but... I'm from Hamburg in Germany. FAR away from the States.

Guys - I feel that many of us are burning more than one fire these days. I am in five clubs. Some of you are in 3-4 clubs. I know that between the ACW and Nappy clubs folks can have up to 20 games and more going. I used to average between 40-50 games at a time myself. I am now down to about 15-20.
This is the reason why we dont see alot of folks. They usually hold the ACW or Nappy clubs as their priority club. The CCC draws a lower priority.
I like to switch my time among clubs. I will pick up five games here and let the games in the Nappy club die out (I have a total of 2 NWC games going right now). Then I let the ACW games die out and pick up some in Frontline and PzC. And so on.
Tournies help alot though and please keep them going! 1812 will generate more folks coming in so you should see a influx of players.
For my two cents - of all of the clubs that send email to their members - ACW is the best. I get mail from my Division commander, CoA, Corps commmander routinely. Compared with NWC I rarely get any correspondance (when I was a subordinate officer in the Prussians army). I have heard the same about the French side but cant answer first hand on that.
So email is another way to get out and spark up the troops. Try out a montly President's message or something! Just a State of the Union message would help us know what is being planned and gear us up for future events. Try putting out an events calendar with dates of significant events like our club anniversary. Need more ideas - email me!
Ernie, you and Rich and Paul Harris of the Anglo-Allied army are the only guys I ever see tryng to recruit for any of our clubs. Now I dont pretend to have an eye everywhere so I apologize in advance to anyone else that is doing this. I just see Ernie and Rich all over though. This really helps!
I used to recruit a bit more. Perhaps I will try doing some for NWC and the ACW clubs as well. Recruitment for our clubs is important.
