I regret sir, that my commitments here and in the Armee du Rhin prevent me from welcoming you properly to this side of the Atlantic.

It saddens me that you have chosen to join George's legions. Your sword will be missed in defense of the Republic. There is always a place in the American Army for skilled officers.

Congress may be able to arrange a tract of land for such a distinguished personnage among our ranks. Should you feel the urge to fight for the defense of liberty, that is.
