HPS has the latest download for 1776. It is optional, it changes the map 3d graphics to match 1812 style. Also includes snow. If you do not want it, it will not affect play, unless your opponent wants snow. I like the trees and snow, but the field is too dark especially at lower elevations.

To make use of the snow graphics, two changes have to be made:

1. The first line of the scenario file (*.scn) must be changed from a 1 to a 3. This lets the engine know the scenario file is for "version 3" games.

2. The seventh line of the scenario file (which looks something like: 2 2 0 0 132) must have a sixth parameter added to the end. A "0" indicates standard terrain, while a "1" indicates snow. Thus, the line would look something like "2 2 0 0 132 0" for standard terrain and "2 2 0 0 132 1" for snow.

Once these changes are made to a scenario file, presto! - snow.

A much easier way to do this is to go into the Scenario Editor.

Open the scenario you want.

Choose "Conditions" from the "Scenario" menu, then choose "snow".

This will change the scenario over to that terrain. Then save the file with a different file name.

As soon as I can I plan on putting up a package with modified scenarios for all the battles with snow conditions as well as modified pdt files to effect the movement rate, which would be slower on snow covered terrain. Watch the SDC for this update.

Rich,

D'oh! That *is* easier... Just wondering: was that option avalable before the graphics patch? I though for sure I'd checked there.

Hi John,

Yes, it became available with the 1.03 patch that brought most of the features of 1812 over to 1776. There's a 1.04 patch due out soon which will make the engines identical.

Hello All,

Sean Coffey got me going on this, and I finally got it completed. I have posted a new download at the SDC -

http://www.hist-sdc.com

It includes all available scenarios for 1776 that I'm aware of, converted over to the snow terrain. Also included are the modified pdt files to reduce movement for all troop types.

If you haven't installed the Expansion package and all the custom scenarios you should do that as some of them have custom OOB's and graphics files. Once you do that though you should be in business for a hundred "new" scenarios or so.

Regards,

Rich
