I'm not much for flag waving and jingosim (being Canadian) but the sight of huge American flags draped over buildings and smaller ones flying from everywhere else in these hours of horror and suffering is heartening. Terrorism is naturally aimed at the ordinary people and only works if the people surrender to it. The resolve, faith and moral strength of the American people will see this through, find justice and defeat terrorists and the countries that harbour them.

America has many more friends and allies than enemies and will be supported by them. Kudos to NATO, the EU and Russia for their show of support and faith.

America will never be alone in its protection of democracy, peace and human rights. It will never be alone in it's fight against anarchy, lawlessness and inhumanity.

They can't win and we can't lose no matter how many lives, buildings or planes they will destroy. Law, justice and democracy will eventually triumph.

Heart, thoughts, prayers and friendship to all those suffering from these tragic and pointless events.

We Americans really appreciate your international show of support. It is a small world and we are aware that our lives( and histories as well ) are interconnected. Our governments are established to keep the peace and punish lawbreakers and I hope we can work together to wipe this sort of crime(terrorism) from the face of the earth.

God bless you all.

Lord, forgive us our sins, and give us your peace and strength and lead us to do your will in all matters.

I too would like to express my grief for this tragic loss. This includes all the other nationalities (ie. Canadians, Germans, Australians, British, and others) who perished.
The world is mourning...<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

I was working away in the factory I work at on Tuesday morning when a friend ran up and told me that that a plane had crashed into the WTC in New York. At first I didn't think too much of this as, naively, I assumed it was a small commutter plane or perhaps a Cessna. Then, shortly thereafter, he came running back out of the office...but this time he was very excited and pale...he told me that as he watched the TV in the office another JETLINER crashed into the second tower! "A Jetliner!" I yelled at him, "What in the hell are you talking about? Two God-damned jetliners hit the WTC? ARe you fucking with me???" I really hoped this was some sick, twisted kind of joke but in my heart I knew it wasn't. My job forgotten, I rushed into the front office to join the crowd around the TV in the boardroom...just in time to watch the replay of the second impact.

"This can't be happening." I remember thinking to myself. This was like something out of a movie...unreal, surreal. Then, news of the other hijackings and the crash into the Pentagon. I looked around the room and saw fear and confusion on every face. We were hundreds of kilometers away from the danger but we didn't feel safe...not anymore.

I watched with weakening knees as trapped workers jumped to their deaths, rather than burn to death. And then, I watched two great icons crash to the ground with an incredible roar and a cloud of dust that took days to settle. The horror was complete.

I silently walked out of the boardroom, out the front door and went directly to our flagstaff. There, without permission, I lowered our company's flags to half-staff and returned to my work station...stunned. Shortly thereafter, my Plant Manager came out and asked if I was the one who had lowered the flags. I stated that I was and braced for some sort of rebuke. But, much to my surprise, he simply held out his hand, shook mine and then left.

I don't know about the rest of the world, but I think it is safe to say that on Tuesday, every Canadian became and American. And as an American we felt your pain and we wish you all the best in the weeks and months ahead.

To Scott and to all,
I know we have all been passionate and at times adament in our different opinions even toward each other. But I just wanted to express my thanks to all especially those from other countries for the sympathy in this time. I don't think it can be conveyed enough how much that means to me and the rest of us in these clubs. Alot of times we will agree to disagree in these clubs on different things, but never was there a time I wouldn't agree you are all in one way or another my friend. Again I thank you for even though we disagree on just being there. Thanx...it was and always will be appreciated.

Mike

The response of the whole world community has been very warm and emotionally received. To hear the Star Spangle Banner played around the globe, and by the Guard at the Queens order at Buckingham Palace, had me well right up. Of all the personnal irony, I served with the Peace Corps in of all places Afghanistan some 20 years ago.

I am quite proud of my co-workers who, despite serving in the Guard and pulling extra duty, come back to work to keep projects moving, keep our clients serviced. In our community, no one wants to cancel events. In Vermont, the Tunbridge Worlds Fair ( quite a small event actually) went on as planned. I think that is our way. You see, at the dawns early light, our flag was still there.....
