Picked up Clausewitz: On War all volumes for .99 (ninety nine cents) for my Kindle Paperwhite.

Can't beat that unless it's free.............

Amazon offer numbers of military books for free, Just need to keep an open eye for them.

Salute!

I find myself reading Clausewitz's On War over and over again.
Simply opening to a certain chapter and poring over it.

And I incorporate much of what he has to say in my gaming here.

Along with those venerable sages from the very ancient past, Sun Tzu and Sun Pin.
Really, I cannot get enough of them.

Salute!

I am very pleased to say that I have procured a second copy of David Chandler's Campaigns of Napoleon!

The copy I had was becoming rather worn and tattered (originally a second hand gift from a friend who turned me onto the Talonsoft Battleground games lo those many years ago).

I have long sought for a backup copy, but is always backordered, or 'round that $100 mark.

The other day one of my brothers called me from a used book store in Portland, Me, where we both live near, to ask if the book in his hand was what I was seeking.

Hardback, great condition, and only $10! Huzzah!

Ah, just holding it in my hands feels so good...

I am jealous - what a steal - I have on kindle for that very reason - always back ordered and if you can get it for 100.00 you are lucky - the price for this book keeps going higher it seems

I bought it at a Borders for around $70 in 2006, then had it wash away in a basement flood 3 or 4 years ago. I lost a few good books and a few hard to find book...I now keep my expensive hard covers on the top shelf!

I also have Chandler's book for my Nook. Todd, that definitely was a steal. I think I paid around $65.00 or so for the Nook version of it.

I have so many books of my own and a deceased relative's that I am going to have to keep some in the basement. This house's basement doesn't flood although the floors get damp if the sump pumps don't work for several days, and there is some mold.

are the maps and pics any good on the ebook readers?

Hi John,

I personally think that one of the lacking aspects of an eReader are the maps. The pictures, depending on their size, are usually very visually pleasing. Bear in mind though, I read these titles from an eReader on my cell phone, which is very new and up to date with beautiful visuals, but just too small. (Samsung Galaxy)
I wouldn't be able to say how the maps look from an actual Nook or Kindle. I do know, for example, the maps that look great in real life from the osprey series are very hard to comprehend from a small eReader.

You'll probably be okay with maps on some of the newer model Kindle's like the Paperwhite and definitely okay on the Kindle Fires but they aren't so great on my Kindle 2 but that is so out of date now it isn't funny.
