I am looking for a book that gives an order of battle of the Napoleon's Guard through out the Napoleonic Era. Does anyone know of one such book or place to collect this information? I have been doing a lot of searching but only get bits and pieces.

Thanks

Al

Thanks Roy,

I ahve that one and plan on using it if we do not come up with anotther. Jeff Bardon also is looking for some information he has on the 1812 Guard. Colin also suggested we use the 1812 Guard because it peaked with the different units at that time.

Al

You may find helpful Appendix A & B in Henry Lachouque (adapted from the French by Anne S. K. Brown), The Anatomy of Glory: Napoleon and His Guard, 3rd ed. London, Arms and Armour Press, 1978. (ISBN 0-85368-401-4). If you can't locate this book, let me know and I will scan the two appendices for you.
Appendix A: Chronological List of Guard units
Appendix B: Troop Levies 1800-1815.

I hope this information helps. Sorry for the tardy reply, but Ii don't visit the reading Room that often.

Take care, Bill

It would not be much of a stretch to say that Al has a copy of every book on Napoleonics, or at least every book rendered in English.

Does he have Cavalry in the Waterloo Campaign by Sir Evelyn Wood (1895) [not the speed reading instructor of the same name, presumably no relation]. Or Ropes' The Campaign of Waterloo (1893)?

While I have books written prior to 1900 with the oldest published in 1828 I do not have any written about specifically about Waterloo that old.

1828!, outstanding! What book would that be? I also have a copy of Samuel Rawson Gardiner's The Thirty Years War from 1874 (I think that must be my oldest), R. Nisbet Bain's Charles XII and the Collapse of the Swedish Empire from 1895, and one volume of Fortescue's History of the British Army from 1899.

I have a new personal record, Annals of the Wars of the Eighteenth Century by Sir Edward Cust (1869).

The above title was unavailable, so I ordered a five-volume set dated 1858 (the last ones for sale that aren't printed on demand from India). It has been rebound with sound bindings but the covers are still in pretty bad shape. The one I previously ordered (but wasn't charged for) arrived the same day. It only covered 1796-1799; I would have been pretty upset to have paid what I was going to for that, or have to pay to send it back to the UK.

Why would someone even bother writing about the French Revolutionary Wars and arbitrarily ending it at the end of the century :?:
