Gentlemen I would recommend “Napoleon the Great” by Andrew Roberts, can’t say I have finished it yet as its some 900 pages but from limited knowledge it seems a good modern look at the great man. I have it on Kindle so avoiding a hernia |

Thanks for the recommendation. In the US, it seems to be published under a different title "Napoleon: A life" http://www.amazon.com/Napoleon-Life-And ... 506&sr=1-1 It's now on my wish list |

Hi David Yes they were published under different titles either side of the pond. Confused me at first but they are exactly the same. |

I see Andrew Roberts has a number of Napoleonic books out... Before i wear out the numbers on my credit card, are there any new insights in this book, not found in others? Has anyone read the other books by Andrew Roberts? |

Hi John I had read The Storm of War: A New History of the Second World War which again as you would imagine is a big book The latest book is a good warts and all biography. He is an admirer but not a worshipper and a very good writer and historian. In all honesty I can’t say there is a lot new but some good in depth analysis of cause and effect. |
