Thanks for the positive input. This also helps Bill Gates sell more copies! :russianveryhappy:

If I get a new computer or decide to repair my older system I will go with Win 10.1. Win 8 sounded like the Win vers. between Windows 98 and 95. Forget the name but it was a real wasted purchase for many. (Was it Windows ME?)

I guess the upgrade to Win10 is free for the first year .. after that folks will have to buy an upgrade disk.

As long as you have Windows 7 or 8 you can upgrade to Windows 10 within 1 year for free... After that yes the upgrade will cost money.

Mssrs.,

I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to W 10. It was painless and everything seems to be working fine, other than the fact that MS' new browser, Edge, doesn't want to let you use Google as its search engine.

Regards,

Paco

You can fix that Paco. It is under the advanced settings.

Bing is a waste.

Honestly, although the new browser is a step up from Internet Explorer, I don't know why anyone would use it over Chrome at this point.

Mike,

My, even simpler, solution is to just use Chrome.

I'm not quite that on the inside. Search engine optimization is my career. The tricky thing about it is search engines won't tell us any of the good stuff.

In all honesty, I don't really pay much attention to most of the exact numbers in any of those reports. They are like political polls. They take a small sample and extrapolate it. I pay more attention to the trends than the particular numbers reported.

The only reason Bing has grown in market share over the last few years at all is because of people who buy a new computer with Windows on it, do not know anything else other than Internet Explorer, and do not know how to change their default browser. Heck, you would be surprised how many people do not even know that Bing exists and just think every search engine is Google.

Bing is so far behind Google in just about everything they do. There is a reason they have never turned a profit.

I figured as much when it came to the polls etc. Also makes sense that when someone gets a PC, if they don't know much about it, that'll be what they use.

Bing for us does show a better list of search terms of how folks looked for us & I often check them myself. But Google still accounts for 85% of all traffic sent to us from a search engine, for the last 60 days.

Guys,

I did run into a major problem. The next time I booted my PC I was prompted to create a password and PIN as a security measure. The moment I activated the PIN, I was locked out of my email program (Outlook 2010)!! Happily, an MS support tech was able to fix the problem.

In todays world one is likely forced to use Windows but anything else by MS should be replaced by other programs.
Outlook? Go for Thunderbird.
Internet Explorer? Go for Firefox.
MS Office? Go for LibreOffic.
Usually you're not only dodging problems by doing that but you also enhance your possibilities, an example is the plug-in you could use in Firefox.

My approach to W10 is that I won't upgrade unless at least the first Service Pack is out, haste makes waste.
