Dear Sirs,

I wonder how many club members have the wargame Scourge of War: Waterloo, and if there would be possibility of including it as an official NWC wargame, of course in case there is enough interest and players.

I think it's a very good wargame, in which is very well represented the main peculiarities of the Napoleonic War, including friendly FoW, AdC's, writed orders, and the HITS system, in which you are tied to the field of view of your role commander; if you want to see something you have to gallop there, or remain in the rear and trust the messages of your officers....

In case anyone does not know, I leave an informative link and a screenshot:

On the contrary, IMHO I think that Histwar should be discarded as an official club wargame. Buggy as hell and abandoned.

I was considering buying this game, as it allows you to command Brigade, Division, Corps or full army and has quite a few campaigns and battles, with a considerable ratio of troops to actual strengths of the Hundred days.

Liked the look of it, and as I'm a NTW and Waterloo fan (if you could call me that) this really appealed to me.

May get it but I have heard there are a few bugs that need ironing out.

This appears to be an excellent game but although it has multiplayer online combat in several modes, the big negative
for me is that it has no pbem. :frenchsad: If it did I would own it already.

Oh it sounds real time to me :(

While I like real time games (was a huge Sid Meier's Gettysburg/Antietam fan ;)) unless you have a person that is in the same room the internet can really wreck havoc with the sync.

Does anyone remember the Age of Sails game? I used to find players using the gamey "ram ship" tactic to mess up the sync. Had several guys that I really enjoyed playing. We looked to find the things the killed the game via internet and avoid them.

And .. does anyone remember the short lived NWC Navy segment of the club ;) Now THAT would date ya! :russianveryhappy:

beautiful screen shot and very tempting to buy.......but I will pass.

I felt the same way about the Gettysburg version...........I bought it and found it very difficult to get into.

My problem is the distorted impression you get, there was already an early thread at matrix that talked about it:
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.as ... age=1&key=
I prefer a view like HistWar provides that gives you a realistic impression of the distances and forces on the battlefield, btw HistWar was surely not abandoned.

The command system is lovely but the distorted impression through the graphics are just not acceptable.

Histwar last patch --> 25/07/2014

And a lot of complaints everywhere (forums etc) for example: http://www.histwar.org/forum/index.php/topic,8191.0.html

I would love to HistWar have a better future, because I follow it for many years, since the beggining, and I've played it a lot, and I have organized multiplayer games. But I think I can't be optimistic...

Well I think that was for Le Grognards, current game is Napoleon who got its last patch April last year:

The club still has the old BG games included although they were more or less replaced by the new series from HPS/JTS.

I've got a lot of thoughts on this & the larger picture of stuff like this, but it'll take me some time to type it up.....

Just to mention though, that the Battleground games are still played too by a set of folks who use them routinely....now that's some serious mileage out of the series....

I still play Battleground games from time to time, after so many years...

I still think they have a lot of charm, and IMHO have better graphics than the current HPS or JTS.

Isn't that beautiful? those unit boxes...

NIR is the only game that I own 4 physical copies of and the Matrix download version. Of all the Battleground games I owned (ACW & Nappy) this is the one that got the hell played out of it....it also fed my interest in the 1812 Russian Army & Napoleon's very cosmopolitan army at the time too. An interest that still goes to this day!

I love the smokey element to the map for NIR & the way it looks, just slightly angled & overhead. The music with it is splendid too! Plus it is a great way to learn about different leaders & units, as when you see a name, you can go look it up. Spent many hours playing it solo too, either side.

Even in NRC, I enjoy playing it a lot! One of the main reasons why, at the iNWC, I based the French Army I ran there off of the 1812 forces. Many people know Eugène de Beauharnais & the Prince Poniatowski are some of my absolute favorite French commanders. Neither get the justice they deserve....and I am a fan of multiple Russian commanders too.

I still play the old BG games a lot.

I just can't get on with real time games.

I always preffered NIR to NRC.

Its not just the terrain grahpics that are hand painted in NIR, i always feel awkward playing NRC.

NRC just feels "wrong" somehow

Maybe our Russian members can say something about it but afaik someone had mentioned that NRC needs a rework like Waterloo needs it so no wonder that the feeling is somehow of the spot.
