On this day 220 years ago Bonaparte defeated Wurmser's Austrian army at Castiglione (Solferino some also call it). Wurmser's army had attacked in several columns and one by one the French defeated them.

Lonato (two different actions), Castiglione 1 followed by the larger battle of the same name. Brescia had been retaken a few days earlier.

Great victory for the young French general. For more info read "Road to Rivoli" - great read and its about time more attention is paid to these earlier battles than to you know where (that starts with a W and ends with an O) ;)

Well not exactly the battle I was thinking of ... maybe if Karesh had been defending the reverse slopes he could have beaten the FBI and ATF .. but not Janet Reno ;)
