Gentleman,
We have three battles in the books.

French player Antonio Zinno has scored a major victory after 21 turns vs Andy Moss.
Austrian Player Anton Kosyanenko has scored a major victory vs Scott Martin (after 20+turns)
Austrian player Bill Peters has scored a major victory vs Paco Palamo after 27 turns.

So the "score" is Coalition 4, French 2.

Maybe I am a tad disappointed with the results so far ... I had hoped for more Minor Victories but perhaps its just in the aggressive manner that we have played so far that is leading to the results.

Note: both sides have to try and keep a reserve .. that means for the French that the back pedal away from the Marengo village and fall back on their reserves and wait for Desaix to arrive. For the Allies it means holding back some of the infantry and cavalry for the French forces they will encounter later in the game. Unless of course it means eliminating entire brigades and divisions of the French .....

So here's hoping for more Minor wins and Draws even :frenchcool

I am sad to report a major defeat for French forces under my command.

:frenchsalute:

My score is Major Defeat after my surrender in 22 round with Bob Hughes (was a Draw in points, in losses: my 4000 and Bob's 4600). The French should leave your positions around village Marengo earlier. More earlier. And wait for fresh troops. The Austrians have advantage of guns, exactly 118, makes impression! :frenchcharge:

Really the French have to be gone from the Marengo line no later than like 10am. Falling back down the narrow lanes and setting up road blocks (a unit behind a hedge projecting its ZOC into the Pike/Road)

I had an image that had lines drawn and the time they should be at that point. It worked out to where Desaix' reinforcements would arrive to reinforce the line basically near the historical counterattack point.

The trick as the French is to try and preserve the cavalry.

Those 8lb guns are really good. Their proper use can wear down the Austrian columns. Yes, there is no way that the French can go toe to toe with the Austrians in a gun duel.

I am going to post a challenge for Marengo and will play the French. I want to put my plan into action.

Gentlemen,
I have been out of the loop for real life issues (and will probably drop off again for another week or two). We have more results to post and again, all Coalition victories. I expected these results to be much more balanced--did the French side talk strategy before hand or did you all dive in alone? Maybe the players should switch sides and see if the coalition players can do better as the French, of course, they will have the benefit of hindsight..

Peters Major Win vs Palamo
Bill Cann Major Win vs Ernie Sands
Jim Pfluecke Major Win vs James Breckinridge
Anton Kosyanenko Major Win vs Scott Martin
Bob Hughes Major Win vs Cezary Pluskwa
Jeff McDonald Major Victory vs Yvan Jacob
Ken Miller Major Victory vs John Corbin

French Victories:
Antonio Zinno Major Win vs Andy Moss

Games still outstanding:
Ed Blackburn vs Mark Nelms
Christophe Boucheron vs Mark van Hattem
Steffen Haug vs Stefano Ciampoli
Guillaume Bertrand vs Ian Conway
Tomasz Tesznar Mike Stefanowicz

No Jim, the French just splashed on cologne and plunged right into the game! :frenchlol1:

Honestly, I have played many players down through the years that did not "recon" a scenario. Many of them just wished to plunge in and play it without any detailed assessment prior to play.

Marengo is harder to play as the French but they can frustrate the Allies by pulling back ... the goal for the Allies (Austrians) was to exit the map and cross the Scrivia river and reach Piacenza. If the French can cause enough losses the gain of the victory locations will not bring an Allied victory. As the French its important not to sacrifice units early on.

Looking forward to playing the French in a battle. Challenge posted ... waiting for a player to step up.

Hi Guys
I'm sorry, but I have no news of my opponent, I sent him two emails but no reply.
Now, I don't know what to do.

Sorry for this belated result.

Steve Archer (player from "Blitz", introduced by Andy Moss) deservedly obtained a Major against me.
Congratulations to him. He took on board Andy's advice. Well done Sir.

He would make a welcome addition to our club and any army fortunate to "entice" him.
