Post subject:  The Battle of Tourcoing: 17-18 May 1794

One of the most complex battles I have ever researched for a game is the Battle of Tourcoing which pitted the French army under Souham (Pichegru was absent) against the Allied Coalition forces under the command of Saxe-Coburg. Tomorrow and the next day we celebrate the 223rd anniversary of the battle.

Fought near the city of Lille, Tourcoing was an Allied offensive involving a complex plan involving six columns. Two of the columns were expected to cross a river twice!

Enclosed is a battle map showing the routes the columns took. Here is a link to a book on the battle. You can download either the EPUB, HTML, plaintext or Kindle version.

With the completion of this battle, the 18th battle in the game, I will move on to one other battle for the next title and then on to the campaigns. I may fit in another battle after that to make it a even 20 battles.

This is the last of the detailed maps for the game. The rest will be much smaller and not involve as much detail. The Tourcoing area is similar to Normandy. Lots of hedgerows!
