My first question will be did the Russian army of Rimsky-Korshakov in Switzerland have engineers?

If so ... what did the uniform look like? Can someone supply an image for me. So far I am unable to find an image and I dont read Russian.

Was the uniform similar to the Line infantry or did they wear something different?

Followup on this:

One website page I found had an old document that said that the uniform for the Pioneer was the same as the Foot artillery only that the buttons and lace were different colors.

Another website had an image of the Pioneer in black and white. The Pioneer was wearing a "casquette" type helmet with cap behind the front piece.

Question on the front piece ... was it silver? That is my guess.

Bill,

I didn't manage to find in Miliutin's work a direct reference to presence of engineer troops in Rimsky-Korsakov's corps. On the other hand in the combined army to be commanded by Suvorov in Switzerland a number of engineer units are shown: "a pioneers company, sappers and pontoniers squads". No numbers provided, as if they are not on the muster roll.

Regarding the headgear. The front piece was "english tin". Not silver, of course, but white metal. Your guess is almost correct. The classical work on the Russian uniforms is available online. The direct reference to the pages you need with pics is http://www.runivers.ru/bookreader/book9 ... 5/mode/1up Images of different engineers troops are on pages 120-125:
