Has anyone ever played using an "automatic victory" stipulation.

I have been contemplating asking for something like an auto victory condition that simply states that if the score total reaches "major victory" after a completed full turn, the losing side must sue for peace and the scenario is over with a Major Victory declared.

I think having a rule like this may change how you approach a long game scenario like say...."Leipzig" where you may have hundreds of turns before your entire Allied or French Army is on the map or even joins the battle.

You may want to avoid battle and being defeated in detail before they all arrive.

All comments appreciated.

I would not support it. It prevents a "come from behind victory" and I have had a few of those over the years against the French. :o

I think I know when to turn over my sword.

If Napoleon is killed .. game is over as far as I am concerned. The loss of Napoleon would have staggered the French army.

I agree about Napoleon. The same should apply if the French kill or capture Czar Alexander or Frederick-Wilhelm III.

It was not unusual for the Allies to sue for peace after a major defeat.

I thought it would be something to think about.

It might force commanders to rethink their strategy in some campaigns.

I agree with Muddy on this, some scenarios are set up with one or the other side starting on a minor victory due to the unfavourable odds usually. So the defensive plan is to get to a major and beyond asap before the larger force gradually brings things back.

For example in Waterloo historical its quite common to get to a MJV before the Prussians arrive.

Hey Colin. We need to play a game. It is long overdue.

P.S. Your mother wears army boots.

I'd agree, "I know when to lay down my sword."

It might be a thing when there is some piece of territory that is of such singular importance that losing it would "break" an army, and I'd use that as the trigger. But even that would have to be something to the level of "take the only bridge that allows the other side to retreat" or the like. (Paging the Berezina...)
