We (by edit) are celebrating our 20th Anniversary as a club. I do not remember the exact date but it was in 1998 that several of us helped form the NWC. Pierre Desruisseux and Steve Peluso headed up the club for some time with several of us being in charge of the armies. Our first games were the Battleground series and would remain that way until 2000 when we would add in Campaign Eckmuhl, the first of the Napoleonic series by John Tiller Software/HPS Simulations.

Early on we even had a navy that played the Talonsoft "Age of Sail" game.

Those of us that were there will never forget the early days when we were just launching out with this new club. Armies in those days included:

French
Anglo-Allied
Prussian
Russian

We've come a long way since then!

Hoping that the Club admin is planning something nice for the 20th Anniversary. At least a free pint in the RT. ;)

From the August 1999 NWC Newsletter:

STARTING THE NWC

According to Pierre Desruisseaux:

We started in February 98, Steven J. Peluso suggested that we start a Napoleonic club along the lines of the ACW, ACW was about 6 or 7 months old at the time, with most of the problems ironed out. Steven J. Was the Union CoA at the time. Doug Hocking and Allen Torgenson helped out with the graphics/logo and OOB setup and concept, as well as others I cannot remember. There was a flurry of activity, was easy to setup due to the experience in the ACW, Forms and recruitment was setup immediately. I copied over the rules from the ACW and modified them for the NWC.

We started recruiting, it increased quickly to about 30, within a month. I had joined the French army (go figure) but the Allied Coalition did not have a leader. Steven J. was the French Army leader. I took over the Allied Coalition as Chief of the Armies, and organized the 3 armies, Prussian, British and Russian. It took awhile to get the reliable, good, CoA's, that we have know. It was interesting that, I was condemned by some of the French Officers for changing sides, not realizing why it was done. I still wanted to be in the French Army. Anyway, once the Allied Coalition was running I abolished the position of Chief of the Coalition Army and let the individual CoA's run the show, remaining as secretary of State. Ray Panfil was the Sec. of war from the beginning. Steven J. has been president since the beginning. With the work to do in the ACW, I only take care of admin duties within the NWC, concentrating on the ACW, I actually prefer the ACW games. I feel that the Napoleonic titles are great but it just does not feel right. Steven J. had relinquished command of the Union army to concentrate his efforts in the NWC. All in all a good working relationship.

Accrding to Mark and Steph:

I will attempt to tell you of the beginning of this fine club. Hopefully it will not sound like I'm bragging. The origin of this club can be traced back to the message board at the Mason-Dixon Tavern belonging to what has come to be known as our sister club. I osted a message on that board about 13 months ago. It was something like "would anyone be interested in a similar club dealing with the Napoleonic side of the Battleground Series?"

I soon recieved messages from Steve Peluso, Pierre Desruisseaux, Bill Peters, Brett Trevalyan, and Doug Hocking. (If I have forgotten anyone, I appologize, I have since turned 40 and the mind may be going) I'm not sure how many days we spent hashing things out to set rules and how it would break down, you know, how the French finally broke down into Corps and the Allies broke down into Armies based on the different nations. We discussed the rank structure and Who would lead the club once we got started.

So about a year ago, we started the Club and we've been going strong ever since.

I'm deeply thankful to those persons who participated in the formation of this club and to those that contributed over the past 20 years so it could reach this astonishing age. :frenchvive: :frenchvive: :frenchvive:

May it last 20 years more and beyond! :frenchvive1: :frenchvive1: :frenchvive1:

I don't remember exactly when, but maybe 1999 or 2000, so only about 18 years. :frenchlol1:
