Guys - today I updated the PDT files for all of the games I have worked on for JTS. The PDT files were saying version 13 but they were lacking key lines at the bottom of the files. Some of them were still version 9 too.

However, since RBR I have been rating the Bridge MP cost to be 6 to account for congestion during crossings. So all of the PDT files were changed to account for this new MP cost amount. It has been 4 MPs.

Updates will hopefully go out once CEF is released (early next year I am thinking .....).

This would make the crossing of a pathed ford faster than crossing a bridge. Too bad that the pathing AI is hardcoded with the wrong old values. It thinks paths are still worth 6 MPs so you have to single click your supply wagons forward.

Which is correct! A ford is a wider area than a bridge. The troops can fan out thus more troops can cross in a turn. Cavalry crossing a bridge is 4 wide - crossing a ford .. more like 16 wide.

Well but how much more trouble is it to get down to the ford, through the water and up again on the other side. It surely isn't like in some settler movies were they dash through a huge ford like the devil is behind them.

A bridge might be smaller but that's about it as the transition from road to bridge to road is just no problem at all in terms of elevation change or terrain change. And one has to consider that the better the road is the better the bridge will usually be, so on a pike the bridge might not be much of a bottleneck at all.

So in average I won't wonder if ford and bridge are equally slow/fast.

Is a Ford better than a Cadillac, Mercedes or BMW? :scottishduh:

Actually there is always a big bottleneck at any bridge. The unit is in road column for sure. No units on the side of the road marching with them. Remember that marching on a road means that there is also units marching on the SIDE of the road too.

At a ford - LOW water - easy current - there is no delay per se. The units splash through maybe 30 feet of water. We are not talking Old West movies here where the wagons are floating on the river.

RBR had 6MPs for Bridges .. we playtested it and it worked fine. Onward and upward ...

Per se, open ground allows over 130 men to walk abreast in a 100m area. So given dry conditions should it allow greater speed than marching down a pike? Technically there are two rates of formation speed for infantry in Napoleonics; quicktime and ordinary step. Both rates of speed are so slow as to allow manuever by companies around most obstructions. On unmuddied ground there wouldn't be any difference between the speed of progress a file of fours makes on a cobbled road or a manuever column of companies marches through a field. So, there is an ingrained problem with movement in the game as is and this change won't disturb much. A bridgehead should cause some delay at the regimental level. Generally though a ford over a river (which I assume is larger than a 30 foot stream) would be a greater obstruction or at least equivalent is all I pose.
